Who should be the Philippine National Hero?

IF WE WERE to choose only ONE national hero who is best fitting to be regarded as ‘THE’ Philippine national hero, who would it be among the following? Would it be ...
To see how our MODERN E-Learning Reviewers work, please try this 5-item sample:

JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was the inspiration and thus wrongly implicated as the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal Day. (Read: Jose Rizal's Contribution)

As a political figure, José Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan. He was a proponent of achieving Philippine self-government peacefully through institutional reform rather than through violent revolution, and would only support "violent means" as a last resort. (Wikipedia)

ANDRÉS BONIFACIO y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897)

He was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He is often called "the father of the Philippine Revolution". Bonifacio was a founder and later Supremo ("supreme leader") of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution.

He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines, and is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first President, but he is not officially recognized as such. (Wikipedia)

EMILIO AGUINALDO y Famy (22 March 1869 – 6 February 1964)

He was a Filipino general, politician, and independence leader. He had an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine–American War or War of Philippine Independence that resisted American occupation ... (continue reading)

Aguinaldo became the Philippines' first president. He was also the youngest (at age 28) to have become the country's president, the longest-lived former president (having survived to age 94) and the president to have outlived the most number of successors. (Wikipedia)

Tugon sa sagot ni Ava Lopez: YES, Rizal is the one who provoked Bonifacio to stand up and fight. But the thing here is that if there's no bonifacio / Aguinaldo do you think writing will be enough? Come to think of it. We all know that by just writing some Filipinos mind can be open but not all of them will have the courage to fight.

Dr. Jose Rizal was deserving right from the start, he helped open the eyes of the Filipinos to the reality around them. He fought for what he believed in is right, even sacrificing his life for it.

For me its Dr. Jose Rizal,He proved to us that he is more deserving to become our National Hero than others. He wrote two novels that helped Filipino's know the true happenings in our country that time. He also became our inspiration, for he awaken's the Filipino to make a revolution to the Spaniards for the freedom of this country.

I personally prefer Rizal as the national hero because of his patriotism. He motivated people with his brilliant mind and sacrifice his own life for the sake of others.

I think Jose Rizal is the right person and deserved to be our national hero. Because he has done many sacrifices for our country that even anyone can't done.

Dr.Jose Rizal deserves to be our national hero because though Rizal's novels and other propaganda materials had limited circulation, these reached the local ilustrados who in most instances came to lead the revolutionary forces in their provinces.

it should be *fought not fight. *Philippines not Philipine *helped our country to gain independence rather than "that help our country to have independence."

For me, Bonifacio is the real National Hero because of the fact that he lived badly as a revolutionary to fight for our freedom.

If we are to look at the historical backgrounds of these three men, we can see that all of them fought for the same legacy: The freedom of our country. All of them are considered heroes of our country but I prefer Rizal as our “National” one because reading a few of his writings like his popularly known Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, I can say that he really had a lot of words, ideas and hope for our country that led other Filipinos to fight for their rights.

For me, Bonifacio is the real National Hero because of the fact that he lived badly as a revolutionary to fight for our freedom.

Sagot sa tanong ni Ian J.R. I kinda agree with you that Bonifacio indeed did something so great for our freedom but I also believe that not everything needs blood shedding acts just to get what you want. But it doesn't mean also that I'm putting my vote on Rizal. Basically you can't win with what you're fighting for with just words. Yes words are powerful to make and break but having an act makes and gives more impact. So basically I think Emilio Aguinaldo should be the national hero. Not just because he was the first president. I believed that Aguinaldo is wise and practical enough. Like what's always been said, think before you act. A real hero must ponder on a million times before doing an act. We need minds and hands that coordinate with each other.

This answer is for Xeena Requierme: Si Andres Bonifacio. Bakit? Kasi kahit marahas yung paraan niya, atleast wala siyang mga naging hidden agenda sa paghihimagsik niya. Hindi siya nang api ng kapwa pinoy.

I Agree with you, because we all know that rizal gave the inspiration to Bonifacio to revolt againts to the spaniards.

It should be Jose Rizal, why? because he fearlessly faced the consequences behind what he have written. He used his wisdom for our nation hence he should be our national hero for real.He has these abilities that we must follow as a 'kabataan' -na pag-asa ng bayan nga daw. He left those words of wisdom para tayo mismo ay maging bayani rin kahit na sa maliit na paraan.Rizal is one of a kind, marami siyang aral na iniwan..yun ang hero for us.

My answer for Sheen Respondo; Para sa akin si Bonifacio.

For me, the Philippine national hero of the Philippines should be Dr. Jose Rizal. He shows his patriotism, heroic deeds to attain our independence, and show his great love to our country and to all of the Filipinos when he dedicated his life to attain our freedom. He wrote Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo his two great novels showing the corruptions of the Spanish government in the Philippines during that time and it awakes Filipinos to have nationalism. He is a good example, model and inspiration to every one of us because of his works, he doesn't need to use any weapon but instead show his devotion through his novels and essays that will prove to all that Spanish colonial are abusing us. He is really a national hero because of his heroic deeds.

For me still Dr. Jose Rizal because of his sincere services to the filipino people as a doctor, farmer, teacher,an artist, etc. and he fought for us through his pen, books and knowledge. And with his hard work he had set us to free from slavery and have a better education.

This answer is for Hanna Plaza. Tama ka lahat sila ay considered heroes of our country pero dapat ang hirangin natin na "national hero" ay siyang may dugong pinoy talaga at iyon ay si Andres Bonifacio. Si Rizal kasi ay half chinese.

I would go for Andres Bonifacio. While it is admirable that Rizal's pen vs sword dedicated peace and not war, we should not forget that it was a REVOLUTION that made a move against the Spaniards, while the Propagandists' deaths were the catalyst. In these modern times, not every one listens to empty words... They want action. As it is said, actions speak louder than words. Andres was a man of action, valor, and honor. Yes, he was slain with shame, but we should never forget what the man had did while he was still alive.

I just have to agree to Ms, Sasha Red, kadalasan kase nabubulag tayo sa thought na si rizal na lang lagi, whereas madami pang heroes na pwedeng i consider just like andres bonifacio, as he was the "father of philippine revolution" KKK na lumaban din sa kalayaan ng pilipinas, para sa akin karapat dapat din nating i consider si andres bonifacio bakit? Dahil katulad din ni rizal nagbuwis din sya ng buhay , but the only difference is magkaiba sila ng paraan ng paglaban. Thats it

jose p. rizal one, he knew what the country needed other than a revolution. Rizal, thought things through as what the country would need if it ever achieves its own right to govern its own state. otherwise, a revolution may it or may not succeed would still amount to a more serious dilemma; does it stand alone or does it need assistance from another country? if it is governed by the Filipinos had Andres would have come on top, it would've still produced overlapping problems. Philippines in Rizal and Andres's era was still too young to run it's own direction. freedom is good, but think about it, do the Filipinos in that time truly understood the burden and responsibility of moving a country? Philippines would have been free had the revolution of Andres succeeded, how ever in politics and/ or economics a revolution itself is not enough to answer for these things. that is why Jose P. Rizal in my opinion was a correct choice for a national hero. he knew that the Philippines doesn't have the capabilities to stand on its own, which is why he believed a Reformation was needed.

For me, Andres Bonifacio deserves to be our National Hero. We couldn't have gain our freedom if there's no brave leader like him. We shouldn't criticize him because of his educational attainment, what he did for the country matters the most. We can see his eagerness, undying love to fight for his country and for the right of the Filipinos as well. He was determined to fight for freedom and showed us his unmeasurable love in this country and most importantly ACTS speaks than WORDS. That's why I choosed Andres Bonifacio.

For me, I'll choose Jose Rizal, not only because of his intelligence and being a prodigy, he embodied a strong character for the Philippines. If he didn't wrote his novels, no one could ever persuade a huge number of people to fight for our country's freedom.
