JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was the inspiration and thus wrongly implicated as the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal Day. (Read: Jose Rizal's Contribution)

As a political figure, José Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan. He was a proponent of achieving Philippine self-government peacefully through institutional reform rather than through violent revolution, and would only support "violent means" as a last resort. (Wikipedia)

ANDRÉS BONIFACIO y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897)

He was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He is often called "the father of the Philippine Revolution". Bonifacio was a founder and later Supremo ("supreme leader") of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution.

He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines, and is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first President, but he is not officially recognized as such. (Wikipedia)

EMILIO AGUINALDO y Famy (22 March 1869 – 6 February 1964)

He was a Filipino general, politician, and independence leader. He had an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine–American War or War of Philippine Independence that resisted American occupation ... (continue reading)

Aguinaldo became the Philippines' first president. He was also the youngest (at age 28) to have become the country's president, the longest-lived former president (having survived to age 94) and the president to have outlived the most number of successors. (Wikipedia)

Jose Rizal must be our National Hero. We cannot all doubt the contributions of Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio. But Rizal's contribution and influence into our fellow citizen and to our country that time until now is very significant and always there to keep the firing in our hearts be alive always.

Rizal was historically and traditionally named as the national hero. Bonifacio should be officially proclaimed as the Father of the Revolution and should make his birthday as a National Holiday. My question is about Emilio Aguinaldo, how will historians treat his legacy ? Is it true that he masterminded the killing of Bonifacio?

Rizal was historically and traditionally named as the national hero. Bonifacio should be officially proclaimed as the Father of the Revolution and should make his birthday as a National Holiday.

DR. JOSE RIZAL should be the Philippine National HERO because the only thing he has is his knowledge and inspiration to defend us during Spanish Era. He fight with all his heart even though he know that this thing will cause him to death. He face his death with no worries and he loved our country more than to his life.

For me DR. Jose Rizal should be our Philippine national hero because He only use his knowledge and inspiration to protect us even though he know that this thing will cause him to death. He fight with all his heart to awakened those Filipino who are scared and afraid to revolt against Spanish. That's what I called a HERO.

For me Dr. Jose Rizal, because He advocated peaceful reforms in the Philippines. He used his intelligence to conquer the injustices and corruption in his native land. It was his patriotism, optimism and undying love for his country and his belief in his countrymen. He believed not merely in freedom but in the potential of the Filipino people to surpass what they were under the Spanish colonial government and for that he was earned his right place as a symbol of what a Filipino can do in one short lifetime.

I my own opinion Dr. Jose P. Rizal should be our national hero, because he did a best job for us. He sets all Filipinos free from slavery and sets better education. He is good example and inspiration to us most especially to students because of his intelligent and braveness. He fought through his pen, knowledge and books.Through his written articles, he touched the lives, and awakened the mind of people. He had testified the saying "A pen is powerful than a sword. His sensitivity to help others in need and his sincerity to serve, love to the people especially the poor, inspires as so much as a teachers.

against, i think Dr. Jose Rizal is not enough being national hero. even if he have a novels against the spaniards it is not enough to have a freedom of the filipino. Dr. Rizal died but the Filipino still slive of the spaniards. Bonifacio Started the Revolution for the freedom.

pro, because it is right that Dr. Jose Rizal is our national hero. he have many work for the secret revulotion like thier two novel Noli me Tangere and El Filibustiresmo and he is one of the leader of La liga Filipino

For me i believed that Jose Rizal deserve because he scarifies his love life and his quite life.He expressed his love for the Philippines through his novels, essays and articles rather than through the use of force or aggression.

Rizal because he expressed his love for our country without hesitation. He always think first for his country men than to himself. His life became a great influence to all Filipino. His death became a tragic not because of him there will no Bonifacio and Aguinaldo.

i agree on your opinion because Rizal is the best for me national hero

against, because we didn't know about the history of Dr. Jose Rizal. Andres Bonifacio is the father of revolution he is the right national hero because he start the revolution to have our freedom. Bonifacio started the revolution because he see the society is very pity and helpless with the hand of the spaniards.

pro, for me our national hero is Dr.Jose Rizal because he have many things to do for our country. Dr.Jose Rizal is one of the revulotioner in our country and he fight for our freedom in the spaniards.

Rizal belonged to the borgeouse or burgis, while Bonifacio belonged to the masses and even without education he oranized and lead the KKK. How much more if he was educated. Yes Bonifacio should be the national hero. the elite maintained Rizal due to their burgis mentality, looking down at Bonifacio. But in the hearts and minds of the grass roots and the masses it is still Bonifacio.

Bonifacio, was regarded with awe and respect by the intellectuals, professionals and commoners s that joined him in the Katipunan leadership was testament to Bonifacio’s supreme ability to lead—the supremo who was without equal. In that time and place, the most selfless and fearless, and the most committed to the cause, was the natural leader and Bonifacio was the most selfless, the most fearless and the most dedicated.

As we all know, Emilio Aguinaldo is the first president of our country. Meaning, he continuously care for our country and carry on the legacy of the so-called unsung heroes on that time. Therefore, Emilio Aguinaldo deserves the National Hero that Jose Rizal have on his name.

Hi! I have read your comment and it is nice. Willingness to die is not the only prerequisite for being a hero. It is how you manage to protect yourself and your comrades at the same time, thinking of the things that might happen after making a move, achieving goals without risking too many lives. I agree with Rizal that the pen is mightier than the sword. Furthermore, Filipinos in the time of revolution have no enough weapons that would match the Spaniards'. So it is clear that to fight without a weapon is a suicide, therefore unable to achieve any goal.

Hi! I have read your comment and it is good! But the ability to lead and fearlessness are not the only prerequisites of being a national hero, but the ability to inspire and influence hearts and minds just as Rizal did.

Hi! I have read your comment and your argument is nice! But being an underdog does not define a national hero. It is how he will inspire and influence hearts and minds, just like what Rizal did.

Well, it does not mean Emilio Aguinaldo became the first president he can be the Philippine National Hero. Being a national hero takes into a character which can inspire despite of ages and years of commemorating the heroic acts someone can be done for their beloved country. So, no one can ever change the history, Dr. Jose Rizal inspires us all through the years passed.

I respect your opinion about Andres Bonifacio, but saying that he is more of an man of action does not mean he can inspire people through his actions and can become the national hero. Sometimes, action can be violence or can be an act of desperation. So, it means Dr. Jose Rizal still dominates him in far more different ways just like in cognitive skills, range of understanding on things that are priority, and simply having a big heart for his country's sake.

Rizal really has his character to inspire but the leadership of a person is much considerable when it comes in choosing the Philippine National Hero. Aguinaldo has it, so, that is the basis of being a National hero of our country.

Hi! I have read your comment and it was nice. But I think Rizal also did the same thing just as you mentioned. And it should be DEFEND,not depend. Thanks.

Good day to you you have a point to your statement that Bonifacio should be the one to became national hero in the Phillipines but I am still choose Jose Rizal to become national hero in our country because of his word and sacrifices Filipino people awake and starts to fight against Spanish Colony that time.

I object to your opinion. If we will recognized Bonifacio as National Hero how about Francisco Dagohoy and many other heroes who fought also to the Spaniard.

Aguinaldo at Dagohoy.

I disagree that Bonifacio will be a national hero, because Bonifacio used violence in order to achieve independence while Rizal used his intelligence.

For me, Still Dr. Jose P. Rizal should be the Philippine national hero. Because He never used VIOLENCE to fought against the Spaniards. Instead of using sword, he used his PEN and KNOWLEDGE to express his feelings by writing some stories and pamphlets to encourage his and her fellow Filipino people to stand up against the Spaniards.

After I read books about Jose Rizal. I already understand why he become our national hero. First is he has the knowledge! Using his own knowledge he create so many novels and that novels helps us to become an open minded person. Second, he is not afraid of what the spanish is going to do with him. And last he has the heart! Even he travel so far he never forget his own country, his family and friends and also he has a big faith in God.

For me,i think it was Andres Bonifacio who have to be the Philippine national hero. His courageous that awaken the minds of each Filipino people and for being the Father of the Philippine Revolution are just some of his contributions that i think might give him the qualities for being our national hero.

It must be Rizal because he uses words (his poem and novels) to awakened the minds of our countrymen. He did not used violence to defend our country rather he inspired other national heroes to fight against the friars.

Our national hero must represent the personality and attitude of the Filipinos. As we all know, Rizal is not just an intelligent person but he has also the courage to fight against the Spaniards.

Our national hero must represent the personality and attitude of the Filipinos. As we all know, Rizal is not just an intelligent person but he has also the courage to fight against the Spaniards.

Courage of Andres Bonifacio is not enough basis or standard to become the Philippine national hero. Many other heroes have the courage to fight against the Spaniards but still they did not get the freedom we want.

Rizal is the great advocate for the reforms in the Philippines during Spanish era. Katipunan is only the product of La Liga Filipina founded by Jose Rizal. So, for me, Bonifacio is only the product of Rizal's association.

I respect your opinion but I think Jose Rizal is more deserving to be our national hero. He traveled across many countries and wrote many poems for the Philippines. He even proudly proclaimed himself as a Filipino.
