Curfew for Minors: Advantageous or Disadvantageous?

A CURFEW IS A LAW enacted by a local or state government that restricts certain people from being in public places at specified times of the day.
 
Many cities and towns have a curfew law in place to prevent teenagers from being out at certain times, typically spanning the late hours of the night or school hours during the day. Any teenager caught out after curfew can face a fine or even jail time, depending upon the specific laws of the town.
 
Possible reasons to believe that curfew is advantageous:
 
·         Youth crime is a major and growing problem, often involving both drugs and violence. Imposing youth curfews can help to solve these problems, as they keep young people off the street, and therefore out of trouble, and prevent them from congregating in the hours of darkness.
 
·         The use of curfews on minors can help to protect vulnerable children for not all parents are responsible and inevitably their children suffer, both from crime and in accidents, and are likely to fall into bad habits. Society should ensure that such neglected children are returned home safely and that their parents are made to face up to their errands.
 
·         There is no good reason for children to be out unaccompanied late at night, so a curfew is not really a restriction upon their liberty. They would be better off at home doing schoolwork and interacting with the rest of their families.
 
·         Child curfews are a form of zero tolerance policing, showing that a community will not allow an atmosphere of lawlessness to develop. Child curfews can help to change a negative youth culture in which challenging the law is seen as desirable and gang membership an aspiration.
 
Possible reasons to believe that curfew is disadvantageous:
 
·         What if they have to stay out late for a school related activity?
 
·         What if they have part-time jobs, for example being jeepney conductors? Many jobs requires staying until night to earn money for their living.
 
·         It is unethical to criminalize their simple presence in a public space.
 
·         Once charged even for flimsy reasons, they will have criminal record which might bring harms to their opportunities in employment and so increases the social deprivation and desperation which breed crime.

For me , curfew for minors are disadvantageous, because it is up to the parents to decide when their children should be home. By giving a strict curfew for minors, they could be arrested for taking a walk at night. This is not fair, because minors don't always commit crimes, just because they are outside at night they just want to have fun and do whatever they want whenever they want. And she/he knows what is right.. Minors are their parents' responsibility, not the rest of society. In addition, many minors work at night or are involved in activities, such as sporting events, that end late at night. If the minors are not engaging in criminal behavior, I see no purpose in turning their being out at night into a crime. It's not fair to arrest a law-abiding youth for simply being outside.

I am not in favor of implementing curfews. The very simple reason I have in mind is that no one can be branded as a criminal by just staying in a public place. I mean, a public place is somewhere people can stay because they are free to stay there -- especially because the terms trespassing and invasion of privacy do not apply in such places. There are people who stay up late at night working (i.e. -- workers, students with overnight sessions due to schoolworks). A place can be safer even if it exists without curfews. The important ingredient missing-in-action is the law enforcers who must present themselves especially at night to keep everyone safe.

Curfew for minors: Advantageous One of the laws that is implemented in a certain area or barangay primarily to have peace and order is curfew. It is advantageous in such a way that parents are given an opportunity to think well before allowing their minor children to go anywhere. Curfew could be another way to avoid and to lessen the crimes or even troubles to minors. In terms of school works or projects, students can contribute to their group works through the use of modern technology like computers (using social networking sites) or the use of cellular phones (in giving ideas), on these way there is no need to students to go out late at night just to finish their task. Finally, curfew is just one of the actions of the local government concerning about the safety of minors.

Disadvantageous. I think, nowadays, it won’t really help or wala naman magagawa. Generation today is different. Hindi na tayo katulad before na before 6 or 6 pm sharp minors must be home already. There are lot of instances that needs and make minors go home late, for example, school work, distance from school and their house and a lot more. If we would look on the side that minors would just hang around and do nothing, there are also times that they have permission with their parents. It’s the parents and the child responsibility to handle and have full control of the situation because; even in the morning accidents happen.

Curfew for minors is disadvantageous, Para sakin bilang estudyante nasa magulang ang kakayahan na disiplinahin ang isang minor, simply because bilang mga young citizen dapat sinusunod nila ang mga magulang o ang nakakatanda sa kanila. In my opinion curfew for minors is disadvantageous, because children in their mid-teens have many legitimate reasons to be out at night without adults. Many will have part-time jobs, for example in fast-food restaurants. Others are entering their college which need more time especially when there are a group projects or group reports. Then if they caught because of the curfew they will have a record in the barangay and because of it, it will affect the child to find a job in the future. Particularly worrying is the rise of youth gangs who can terrorise urban areas and create a social climate in which criminality becomes a norm. Imposing youth curfews can help to solve these problems, as they keep young people off the street, and therefore out of trouble, and prevent them from congregating in the hours of darkness. Curfews are easy to police compared to other forms of crime prevention, and are therefore effective.

For me, Curfew for minors is an advantage. Minors being at home in specific time gives their parents peace of mind. Knowing that their child/children were in their house make them free from worries. If they are already at home, they can make their homework done early and also avoiding them in committing in public crimes. Curfews can make less criminal and gang activity including use and sell of drugs and alcohol in the streets.

For me Curfew for minors is advantageous, because it will prevent and minimize or even stop the growing numbers of youth involved in crimes. Some of the young people nowadays, are spending their time just to go somewhere, meet with their friends or have an eyeball with the person that they don't really know at night, and some of them take drugs, having early pregnancy, addiction to computer games, and etc. It can help minors to avoid take alcoholic drinks and smoke. It can also help minors to give more attention for their studies and not to have a lower grades in school.
