JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was the inspiration and thus wrongly implicated as the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal Day. (Read: Jose Rizal's Contribution)

As a political figure, José Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan. He was a proponent of achieving Philippine self-government peacefully through institutional reform rather than through violent revolution, and would only support "violent means" as a last resort. (Wikipedia)

ANDRÉS BONIFACIO y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897)

He was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He is often called "the father of the Philippine Revolution". Bonifacio was a founder and later Supremo ("supreme leader") of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution.

He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines, and is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first President, but he is not officially recognized as such. (Wikipedia)

EMILIO AGUINALDO y Famy (22 March 1869 – 6 February 1964)

He was a Filipino general, politician, and independence leader. He had an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine–American War or War of Philippine Independence that resisted American occupation ... (continue reading)

Aguinaldo became the Philippines' first president. He was also the youngest (at age 28) to have become the country's president, the longest-lived former president (having survived to age 94) and the president to have outlived the most number of successors. (Wikipedia)

H there Ms. Joveline A. Saulo. i read your comment about the article and i disagree on some things. Isn't it that Rizal's works have led to the Spaniards suspicions that there is a revolution group. I also think that Aguinaldo has protected our country even better because he achieved the independence that we seek.

I disagree to Angelina Avestruz, Even Jose Rizal didn't use swords to fight the spaniards. He inspire fellow filipinos to have courage and to fight in a non-violent way. To have peace without killing others.

Hi Neneng! I repect your opinion but I disagree with it. For me, it's not about the walks of life to fight for the country, it's about the love for your country.

Hi ! Mr.Dustine I do respect your opinion , but for me bonifacio because he gave inspiration to a lot of filipino because he sacrifice himself for the freedom of our country he fought until he die . he gave more inspiration for every filipino .

Hi ! Chrisanta I like your opinion and respect it but for me Bonifacio because he is a man of action than words and a man who sacrifice himself for the freedom and willing to die for our country , He cant be our national HERO is the one who inspires a lot of Filipino people and protect their nation and Andres Bonifacio fought for independence, in a bloody war. We need a hero like him.

Hi Mark Toriente! I just read your comment that Bonifacio fight the real fight. However, Rizal did not just stand around doing nothing but he awakened the consciousness of the Filipinos about the oppression of the Spaniards thus, igniting the revolution against them.

Jose Rizal kasi ginamit nya ang kanyang mga sinulat laban sa mga dayuhan.

Andres Bonifacio should be the National Hero because he sacrifice himself for the freedom of our country , he fought until he die. He possessed was pure intention to achieve independence, strength and courage, and love of country which made me think that he was more fitting to the title of national hero.

i disagree for jose rizal be our national hero, because jose rizal is against the prayles when he wrote his novels, meaning he is against the church, thats only my opinion to this topic.

I disagree Because he is not a real fighter he die for nonsense a real hero die for fighting not die for reclaiming if he is a hero why he accept to die in many people and he do not escape or to fight many people died like jose rizal but he is the one who provoke himself that he will die and the rizal family is so very familiar to the people like showbiz vhonh navaro was tortured and many people cares why? Because he is an icon to the people like jose rizal he is famous in that year because he is smart but he do not use his brain to scape and have a move to fight the enemies for me jose rizal is an icon not a hero............... In short jose rizal is an artist

I respect your opinion but as I know, Andres Bonifacio also fought with all his heart and he also sacrificed his life for our country.

Rizal did not use his violence but Bonifacio uses his bravery to fight the Spaniards. Awakening the Filipinos to fight the Spaniards is not enough, violence are really necessary in those days.

indeed but rizal's tactic didn't work out against conquerors.so im not in favor of his way of defending our country...

I respect your point of view but Andres Bonifacio has also a clean intention which is to free Philippines from Spaniards. He also love our country that's why he sacrificed his life.

Yes Rizal did not shed any blood but still, he was killed and did not make any Spaniards left the country.

I respect your answer Ms. Khristiana but I disagree. It should be Bonifacio the National Hero, He stand for the rights of the Filipinos and did not give up for the freedom of the cruelty of the Spaniards. There's no peaceful way of resolving their slavery to Filipinos, the only solution for their wrong doings are only by using violence. They have been violent to the Filipinos so why shouldn't Filipinos uses violence against them?

I respect your definition about "hero"but as I know, Andres Bonifacio also fought and awakened the Filipinos. He built KKK to revolt against Spaniards for us to be free from them.

sort off..but the reason he sacrificed his life is because of they are already noticed by the spaniards, as you remember..the katipunan is already unveiled by the members of the katipunan. because of pride he died..

I agree, he loved the country and he's a patriot and all. But generally he just wrote a novel base on what is happening during their time and nothing else. The fact that he was being killed make the Filipino amazed of him.

Andress Bonifacio has his own way of fighting for us to be free.

helo Mr. Jay Garcia, I can say that Rizal should be the National hero not only on his writings and teachings. If we analyze his doings, he was doing something and knowing what will be the effects, feed back, outcomes, and simply he think about the sake of the others not just for himself. And I can prove that with his many doings, like not telling on the distribution of wealth of his novels, because he knows what will be the effect on the Filipinos if they have read it.

hi r. denil delubio your comment is kindly correct but it that prove to be andres is the national hero ? still i prefer jose rizal our national hero . a hero does not need to be using swords or any weapon .its enough to write books about how cruel . unfairness ,rude colonizers are . how they badly trait our countrymen . besides he is a genius that will make him more admirable and unbeatable hero .

Dr. Jose P. Rizal should be the national hero. Many says that he just published books and it is the way how he exposed the wrong doings of the invaders. This is his brilliant strategy to fight spanish invaders.

He fought spaniards without violence. He fought with all his heart and brilliant strategy.

Hell, I happen to read your comment about the article and I would like to share my stand. Rizal studied for a long time, long time plus a very gifted man. With this kind of gifts, any other man would rather go to a safer place but instead he went back to the philippines and used his writings as a way of communicating with his fellow kin to know what they should know. Which motivated Andres Bonifacio and the Katipuneros to fight for freedom

He fought spaniards without violence. He fought with all his heart and brilliant strategy.

Hi, i happen to stumble upon your comment about whom should be the national hero. This is my stand, Rizal should be the one given the title to. Despite the knowledge and money he has to ran off in another country, he chose to use is literary work to help his fellow filipinos realize what they need to realize. Because of this, it brought courage especially to Andres Bonifacio whom infacts idolizes Rizal. Without Rizal, Andres Bonifacio might not do such things.

I respect your opinion and I agree that Bonifacio has a big contribution to our nation. And yes, it is true that Rizal only wanted a reform. Choosing a reform over a revolution is more logical, because during that time Philippines was not yet capable of standing on its own.

Hi, I happen to read your thoughts while browsing in the comment section. Here is my stand, Rizal should be the national hero because without him, Andres would have no one to idolize. It has been told that Andres Bonifacio was a fan of Rizal and because of this he got motivated enough to start the revolution. After reading Rizal's literary works, he knew that he was going to do the right thing and this is why Rizal should be the national hero.

Aguinaldo is traitor he was the accused for raping Bonifacio's wife.He wants to sell Philippines to spaniards. Rizal used his words to open the mind of the Filipino against spaniards.

I respect your opinion, but I don't think that you have to be poor to understand how it's like to be a normal Indio. Because Rizal, himself, though well-off, was also a victim of discrimination. And I've also read the article that you are referring to, it says "Rizal really wanted was for the Philippines to be a province of Spain. Warfare was certainly not his style; it was education." Choosing reform is more rational than revolution. Because he knew during that moment the Philippines was not yet capable of standing on its own.

I respect your opinion, however, your answer gives me a bad impression. I don't think that there's something wrong studying outside the country. It helps Rizal to have a wide range of perspective about life. And because of that not only Filipino people, but also foreigners were inspired by him.

im againts to jose rizal as a nnational hero because andress bonifacio is the first filipino give hope to his country, and fight the spaniards in the country.

Dr. Jose Rizal is a true hero for me because of his undying love for our country and our people, his ingenuity, and his great works. He has inspired not just our countrymen but people from different parts of the world to be educated as education is the best tool to be progressive, to be enriched. Education can not be stolen, and it can be pass on to the next generation. Furthermore, Dr. Rizal has never betrayed the country, instead, has continued to fight for our freedom even to the last days of his life.

It should be Dr. Jose Rizal as our Philippine national hero. Mainly because even though Andres Bonifacio has a brave and strong characteristics we could not deny the fact that he was still depending on the name of Rizal for him to influence the KKK.

i think jose rizal deserves to be our national hero because he was able to awaken the filipinos to the exploitation of the spaniards. without jose rizal, there will be no andres bonifacio and emilio aguinaldo that will fight for the independence of our country.

It should be Dr. Jose Rizal, if you take a the subject Rizal in college you'll definitely understand why. He fought for the independence of the Filipino, through his writing Rizal open the eyes of his countryman. Bonifacio was one of those people inspired by Jose Rizal, to fight against Spaniard colonizer.

Jose Rizal should be the national hero. He deserves it because he fought for the freedom of the Filipinos in a silent but powerful way. He used his novels to express his thoughts against the Spaniards unlike Bonifacio who used violence.

Andres Bonifacio, because he is willing to die just to commit our freedom from spanish. Bonifacio also serves as the leader of many Filipinos in the period of spaniards, unlike Jose Rizal He just write a novel but he never fight through revolution because only revolts is the solution to get our freedom from spaniards.

Jose Rizal, for as we all know rizal fought for our country through his writtings. He offer his life, eventhough he knew that it can let him to death. For he fought in a silent way, he didn't harm anyone. Unlike what bonifacio did.

For me Dr. Jose Rizal is Deserving to Honor as a National Hero because Dr. Jose Rizal enlighten the Filipino people to the reality and he advocated for liberty through peaceful means hence he was a non-violent freedom activist in Asia recognized by Gandhi as a forerunner in the cause of freedom.

My choice is Jose Rizal because he didn't used force in order for him to get what he wanted to get and that was our freedom instead he used the form of writing to open the eyes of the Filipinos to stopped the leadership of Spaniards in our country. He also had a good values which most of the Filipinos will adore to have it. In short, He is a good example!

Yes indeed that Jose Rizal, done a lot of great works to our country. He's legacy will to continue and lives on to all generations but it's unfair if all the credits as a hero will give back to him. In fact there're already many people in our everyday lives who demonstrate heroism or undertake selfless acts. Such as dedicated police officers, paramedics and fire fighters who go out everyday, risking their own lives helping people and strangers whom they have never met from imminent danger. Despite it sometimes feeling like you couldn't do the same, there're still ways that many of us could become a hero or show heroic characteristics in real life that anyone can do.

For me it's Dr. Jose Rizal because he advocated liberty through peaceful means rather than by violent revolution.

yes, i also agree for what have been said. rizal also used his knowledge and talents in writing essays, novels and poetry which is a big help to open our eyes against spaniards and dominican friars.
