JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was the inspiration and thus wrongly implicated as the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal Day. (Read: Jose Rizal's Contribution)

As a political figure, José Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan. He was a proponent of achieving Philippine self-government peacefully through institutional reform rather than through violent revolution, and would only support "violent means" as a last resort. (Wikipedia)

ANDRÉS BONIFACIO y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897)

He was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He is often called "the father of the Philippine Revolution". Bonifacio was a founder and later Supremo ("supreme leader") of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution.

He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines, and is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first President, but he is not officially recognized as such. (Wikipedia)

EMILIO AGUINALDO y Famy (22 March 1869 – 6 February 1964)

He was a Filipino general, politician, and independence leader. He had an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine–American War or War of Philippine Independence that resisted American occupation ... (continue reading)

Aguinaldo became the Philippines' first president. He was also the youngest (at age 28) to have become the country's president, the longest-lived former president (having survived to age 94) and the president to have outlived the most number of successors. (Wikipedia)

I can say that Bonifacio was an intellectual impassioned by the need to change the oppressive and exploitative system not merely by writing about it but also by acting on it and thus organized the KKK or the “Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan. "action speaks louder than words"

Im sorry miss gutierrez..... but i choose Andres Bonifacio as a Philippine National Hero because he is not afraid to fight for the filipino people eventhough he knows that he's risking his own life..... unlike Dr. Jose Rizal na ballpen lang ang ginamit sa paglaban.

Base on your comments I disagree with your choice. I prefer to vote for Gat Andres Bonifacio because he has the courage to start a revolution for our freedom in our land.

I disagree. Kahit si Rizal ang national hero through his mind and knowledge, deserving din si Andres Bonifacio kasi buong tapang siyang nakipaglaban para sa kapwa nya Pilipino laban sa mga dayuhan

I agree that Dr. Rizal should be the Philippine National Hero because he never used violence but instead he used the idea of writing to open the eyes of the Filipinos. Dr. Rizal fought the freedom in a silent but a powerful way.

Mr. Jay Garcia, i respect your comment about Andres Bonifacio. And sorry if I'm not in favor with your opinion that( Andres has a more courage to fight and he was willing to die for our independence). Rizal is more qualified to be our national hero because he contribute his life and good systems for freedom in our nation, and most of all, because he thinks the future generations. Though he died before we get our independence, he still deserve to be our national hero for the reason that he won the battle against the Spaniards through opening the Filipinos eyes to see the truth and give us hope.

For me, it was Andres Bonifacio. Because he is willing to sacrifice his life for the sake of our country.

Good day Mr. Denil Delubio, I respect all your opinion that Andres sacrifice himself for our country and struggle for freedom. Even Jose Rizal died in fighting for our country's independence but in a dignified way. He fight through using his pen, inspiring writings and books and his intelligence for our sake. Even when the Spaniards sent him to jail he was still fighting for us(Filipinos)through his ideas.

Most of the Filipino think why Dr. Jose Rizal our National Hero not Bonifacio??For me I choose Dr. Jose Rizal as our National Hero. Because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way. He expressed his love and concern for the Filipinos through his novels. And he was the one who opened the eyes of the Filipinos up.

Good day Ms. Mary ann Magdaraog. I strongly disagree with your opinion. I dont think he deserved to be called as our national hero. Rizal died for our freedom though he doesn’t know what will happen next after he died. For me I’ve never heard anyone fought for the right of our country the way he did. Rizal is the only hero I know who used pen and paper to have our independence and not through bloody war.

I disagree, I think Gat Andres Bonifacio should be the Philippine National Hero because He sacrifice his self for the freedom of the country. He fought against the Spaniards.

I agree, Dr. Rizal should be the Philippine National Hero because other heroes were just inspired by him. Without him, they wont fight and they will never know the real happenings in the country that time. He opened the eyes of the Filipinos through his writings. He was killed, he sacrificed his life even he was just mistaken to be the leader of the revolution.

disagree i choose Emilio Aguinaldo because he also a brave man and like Rizal he do everything and sacrifice his life for fighting our freedom in our own country, also base in our Philippine history Emilio is the one who got our 1st republic and fight the conqueror and successful to got our freedom in Spaniards period. and i think he is the successful leader among the two.

I bet Andres Bonifacio should be our Philippine National Hero because he wanted his country for freedom by doing a revolution called, KKK. He got that idea from Jose Rizal but Bonifacio did it in action. Actions speaks louder than words ika nga. :)

For me, Emilio Aguinaldo should be the Philippine National Hero because he is the one who achieved independence of the Philippines from Spain. He led the Philippine-American War against U.S. resistance to Philippine independence.

Andres Bonifacio because he is the chief to struggle for freedom against the colonizer and he loved his country and dreamed of a self-governing in our country.

Jose Rizal because he even sacrifice his own life, his loved ones, and he awakened us Filipinos through his writings regarding the Spanish Time. His works and intelligence can never be replaced by any other though they have the same goal of making our country free and independent.

i agree, Just look at the past what Jose Rizal did just to save his countrymen and he speak through his pen without using his bare hands to fight. Jose Rizal give us freedom and even he is out of country, Rizal always turn back and never forget where he belong.

Choosing the national hero is quite difficult. Many heroes are candidate for being a National Hero like Andres Bonifacio, but Jose Rizal is the one chosen. why? well, many heroes deserve for but Rizal has something that anyone don't have. unlike Bonifacio Rizal fought for freedom in peaceful manner. He is gentleman and if he know something went wrong like injustice, he make things right. The most important that Rizal have is he had a great death. His death make sense to other Filipinos and make them initialize action for redemption of freedom.

For me, I will still be with Jose Rizal because he was capable of revolutionizing the way the Filipino thought. He was able to stir people's inner spirit when he was about to make any speech.

Emilio Aguinaldo, because he is the first President who raised the Philippine flag. He has a crucial role in the Revolution. He is also the first President of our country. As you can see Aguinaldo has many first',He is the most deserving among the three to be our Philippine National Hero.

@Dave Tyrone Roperez - (I used my kuya's username because i didnt got a confirmation to my e-mail address) For me, I agree's on my brother said. Because Aguinaldo makes us proud to become a filipino.

@lilibethfuentes I Agree on my son's answer. Because Aguinaldo fought in spaniard physically and sacrifice his life just for us.

@juancabalfin Im against Mr. Roperez, because for me, Dr. Jose Rizal is must be the National hero of our country. Because He gave us inspiration to fought spanish colonial on that time.

@Myla roperez(I cant see a confirmation on my spam) im against with you my nephew, because for me, Andres Bonifacio is must be the Philippine National Hero. It takes time to realize why he deserve it. Thats all.

There are many ways to become a national hero. Not necessary a hero that can fly, or a hero that has a power. but a hero that can sacrifice his own life for the sake of his countrymen. For me, Jose Rizal is the best example not because he studied in different country, not because he know how to speak different dialect and languages but because he do his own way of fighting using his words and intelligence and it is become his weapon to awakened people of what is happening in real life.

I agree that Dr. Jose Rizal is true nation hero. He offered himself to achieve the our freedom,he didn't use weapons but he use his writing skills to publish a book that exposes the evil doings of the Spaniards.

c/o Rommel Ramos (i used my girlfriend's username because i didn't received any confirmation in my email) i agree that Jose Rizal is the Philippine national hero because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way. He expressed his love for the Philippines through his novels and essay.

c/o Lorelie Ramos If I were you ill choose Bonifacio because Bonifacio almost got rid of the Spaniards in our country. The KKK made great help to our country. Rizal just wrote books and novels and did nothing but just to hide in Europe. its up to you because for me i don't want Spaniards here they just want to make us their province unlike America we'll be a state.

Many people think who should be ‘the’ Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal or Andres Bonifacio? But for me, it’s Dr. Jose Rizal. Why? Simply because, his novels and writing are the one that opened the eyes of all Filipino and gave them the courage to fight. He proved that pen is mightier than a sword.

c/o Harvy Secosana Salar I prefer Andres Bonifacio to be our national hero coz he put things into reality - hindi lang sya nangarap maging independyente and Pinas kundi physically ginampanan nya ito para matupad..... in short hindi lang sya puro pangarap kundi may action syang ginawa...

I agree that Dr. Jose Rizal is our nation hero. During Spanish Era, the Filipinos is in the dark path and the Spaniards control the lifestyle of the Filipinos and Dr. Rizal is like a fire that warmed the frozen fighting spirit of the Filipinos to fight against Spaniards for the freedom of the Philippines by the use of his powerful and meaning novel.

c/o Donalyn Colico I agree that Rizal was considered the National Hero because he opted for a non violence reform in the government. Instead he used his writings to open the eyes of the Filipinos. He dedicated his life for his countrymen without hesitation.

We know that we have different ideas about everything , what i mean is we should respect other's opinion. For me Dr. Jose Rizal deserves to be our national hero because he chose to used his own mind rather than to use violence to make other people open their eyes on the reality that they were facing.

Choosing our national hero is not a big deal for me, because the true heroes are the ones who's doing everything they can to make a change. Everybody can be a hero on the simple deeds that we do that can affect other people's lives. But choosing out national hero, for me, it's Jose Rizal too because he can decide what to do on what's the better thing to do. Not only by using his mind and not his strength in killing people but he chose to be the better one. He chose to be the one to get hurt rather than to hurt other.

I would prefer Andres Bonifacio is the real hero because sa kabila ng kamangmangan niya naintindihan niya kung gaano nahihirapan ang kanyang mga kababayan under spanish rules. :) Mabuhay Pilipinas!

In my opinion, the national hero should be one with the greatest influence. For this reason, we believe that Rizal is the worthy one, since he himself influenced Bonifacio to act up. A hero should exude an aura which is definitely hard to avoid and be influenced by. This is what Jose Rizal was all about.

for me i chose Dr. jose rizal becausel everybody can be a hero but the death of rizal change it all. he affects all the early filipinoes back then. he open all our eyes by his death to fight against the spaniards and to fight for our freedom against the spaniards.
