JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was the inspiration and thus wrongly implicated as the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal Day. (Read: Jose Rizal's Contribution)

As a political figure, José Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan. He was a proponent of achieving Philippine self-government peacefully through institutional reform rather than through violent revolution, and would only support "violent means" as a last resort. (Wikipedia)

ANDRÉS BONIFACIO y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897)

He was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He is often called "the father of the Philippine Revolution". Bonifacio was a founder and later Supremo ("supreme leader") of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution.

He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines, and is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first President, but he is not officially recognized as such. (Wikipedia)

EMILIO AGUINALDO y Famy (22 March 1869 – 6 February 1964)

He was a Filipino general, politician, and independence leader. He had an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine–American War or War of Philippine Independence that resisted American occupation ... (continue reading)

Aguinaldo became the Philippines' first president. He was also the youngest (at age 28) to have become the country's president, the longest-lived former president (having survived to age 94) and the president to have outlived the most number of successors. (Wikipedia)

If I am given a chance to choose for the best hero it would be, Andres Bonifacio because he is a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He’s known as "the father of the Philippine Revolution". He is also the founder of Katipunan movement which wanted the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial and started the revolution. For me, he is very determined to achieve the Philippine revolution in order to liberate the Philippines. I guess he has all the good characteristics of being a hero, he’s brave enough to protect the country and that is something I admire most.

i disagree, i choose emilio aguinaldo because he is a good leader , a disciplinarian and a well educated person. He can lead our country and he can raise it up

If i were to choose our national hero, it's Jose Rizal too. For he never stop fighting for our nation's freedom. He doesn't have the power to struggle physically against the nemesis rather, the basic courage and intelligence is what he has. Rizal shows that he doesn't need to fight them with violence because only through his knowledge he was able to protect our beloved country and give us justice.

ako ay sang ayon, si Jose Rizal ay kilala natin bayani na kahit kailan ay hindi gumamit ng dahas sa pakikipaglaban.. ang kanilang panulat ang kanyang gamit sa paglaban sa masama.

Bonifacio fought for the freedom of the Philippines til the last drop of his blood. He put his words into an action. So, I think Bonifacio should be the hero.

I think it should be Andres Bonifacio, because he wanted the philippines to become a nation, while rizal, though he had great/good intentions for the filipinos, wanted the philippines to officially be part of spain, sort of a province and not a separate nation or colony, so i think the title 'national' hero does not really suit him.

Dr.Jose Rizal proved that we could fight for our country without violence.

I consider your reason denil delubio because you have a point but lets not forget that Dr. Jose Rizal also sacrificed his life. He take the risk of publishing his writings against the Spanish ruler for the people to be informed on what is happening. They both fought for changes and freedom of course.

hi Anna Marie Aliling:) you have a point but i am sorry to disagree with you. During that time i don't think they have a well-planed revolution because they failed many times for the very reason that Filipinos that time doesn't have unity. You are also right that Bonifacio is the one who put freedom into action but if it is not because of the writings of Rizal who inspired him, I don't think he has the courage to fight for the country.

hi sally cleofe:)I consider your point but being brave and strong doesn't mean you are already a hero. Lets take into consideration that not all things can be solve through revolutions or wars. Rizal also fought the Spaniards in a peaceful manner and he succeeded in a way that he was able to lightened up the minds of the people.

I would prefer Andres Bonifacio because I see him as a very simple person who doesn't need to go to different countries to study. He's the type of person who believes on what is right and good for the country and fight for it until the end. So he should be the national hero of the Philippines.

For me, Emilio Aguinaldo should be the Philippine National Hero because he is the one who achieved independence of the Philippines from Spain. He led the Philippine-American War against U.S. resistance to Philippine independence.

For me, Jose Rizal should be our number one Philippine National Hero because he died for our country, that he called our Nation his Fatherland because he loves our country. Aside from that, he wrote novels like Noli Me Tangere and El Flibusterismo that made the filipinos opened their eyes and minds to awaken our nationalism in our country. He also help the sick people by curing their sickness. And he made the the people have the courage to fight for our freedom.

hi Juan Miguel.I do respect your opinion that Rizal use his writing to fight for our country. However,Bonifacio make a big impact in awareness of many Filipinos through his revolution. Because of that revolution, it served as a turning point to all filipinos -rich or poor- to realize that they have the capacity to fight for our freedom.

Hi Emil. :)That's a very nice opinion but for me Andres Bonifacio deserved to be called as the Philippine National Hero. He is not as intelligent as Dr.Jose Rizal, but he showed that you don't really need to be a prodigy to be a hero or to fight for freedom. Courage and passion is enough.

Sorry Lauritto but I disagree. We define "hero" as a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. I believe none of these describes Emilio Aguinaldo. It is proven that Emilio Aguinaldo did not end his life in the battlefield. Instead he just died because of illness.

Hello Jay. :)I really appreciate your opinion but I think Dr. Jose Rizal should be our National hero because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way. Dr. Jose Rizal also sacrificed his life by accepting his punishment, he didn't escaped or hide to avoid it.

Hi! No offense but I don't agree to your opinion. Dr. Jose Rizal also sacrifice and struggled to "defend" our country in a peaceful way. In fact Andres Bonifacio was inspired by Dr. Jose Rizal that's why he founded the K.K.K.

Hi grace ;) I'm not in favor of Andres Bonifacio to be our national hero. He may be the head/founder of the K.K.K. but if not because of Dr. Jose Rizal's writings, they wouldn't have the courage to fight against the Spaniards. So Dr. Jose Rizal is our national hero.

hello! Sorry to say but I'm not convinced with your opinion.Dr. Jose Rizal oppose The Spanish Government by writing it in novels and books, and that alone is enough to say that he is brave and his love to our country is indefinite and by doing these he showed that violence can never be solved by another violence.

sorry friend but i disagree to your choice, for me it should be Andres Bonifacio because he organized and mobilized resistance, he did not just write.

i agree to your choice, for me its Jose Rizal also because he did not just write but he also use his talent and knowledge just to fight for Filipinos Freedom.

I disagreed. It's impossible that Emilio Aguinaldo is a National Hero, because he was the one behind the death of Bonifacio. He greedily wanted to own and to be the president of the Philippines, since Bonifacio was the one deserves the name of National Hero, because he was the one who fights for freedom.

i disagree because for me, i will choose Emilio Aguinaldo as "the philippine national Hero" because even though he is young, he courageously fight and govern filipino towards their freedom.

I agree because Dr. Jose Rizal is a very genius and a brave person he is loyal to our country and never betray us. Emillio and Andress are Hero too but the true Philippine national hero is Dr. Jose Rizal only.

For me, Andres Bonifacio should have been our national hero. Unlike Rizal, he was not that well off so his resources were limited but he still was able to carry on the revolution. It was said that he had not that much education and yet he was able to convince a lot of followers to his cause and he was believed by many. What he possessed was pure intention to achieve independence, strength and courage, and love of country which made me think that he was more fitting to the title of national hero.

I am not satisfied with your answer. He cannot be acclaimed as Hero, by writing novels only.

I disagree and picked Andress Bonifacio because he is the one who formed a group called KATIPUNAN. Even w/o knowledge to lead the group, he fought the w/ courage and fought to claim independence until to his last breathe.

hello, if there is a Zombie in front of you, how can you fight and defend yourself? BY USING A PEN AND WRITE A NOVEL THAT A ZOMBIE IS GOING TO EAT YOUR BRAIN?

hello, if there is a Zombie in front of you, how can you fight and defend yourself? BY USING A PEN AND WRITE A NOVEL THAT A ZOMBIE IS GOING TO EAT YOUR BRAIN?

You may have a point Ms. Chrisanta Grecia, Rizal maybe a hero but I think that Andres Bonifacio should be our national hero because of his braveness and his encouragement to the Filipinos for never giving up on the freedom from the Spaniards.

Rod Rey, emilio aguinaldo is not "he courageously fight and govern filipino towards their freedom" because in the first place bonifacio win the votes as the president but he is poor. that's way emilio become a president but he is the one behind the death of bonifacio.

I really respect your opinion Mr. Ergin John Agarao but Andres Bonifacio should be our national hero because he is a man of action. remember, action speaks louder that words. Without the action of the Filipinos who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of this country, we will still be a slave for the Spaniards. If the actions were not implemented nothing will happen.

I have to say Ms.Carina L. Precones that I did not agree to your opinion because Andres Bonifacio is the one who should be our national hero. Beacuse I'm sure before doing an action, they have think about it carefully because they will be sacrificing their own lives for the independence of the country. It just happened that Rizal awakens the Filipinos to fight for the freedom but it is Bonifacio who fought and sacrifice his life and made our country away from the cruelty and slavery of the Filipinos.

for me, the national hero of the philippine should be Jose Rizal because he believed not merely in freedom but in the potential of the Filipino people to surpass what they were under the Spanish colonial government, and all he wished was for them to be given the chance to tap that potential.

i do respect your opinion but somehow i disagree on the part that it seems like your only considering rizal as national hero. The way you describe rizal as genius and loyal its also the way you describe the two(bonifacio and rizal). But as for me, Bonifacio deserves to be a national hero not because the way he fight for our freedom(revolution) but the attitude to take risk and being accountable in what he has done.

hi mam princess i do respect your opinion that jose rizal deserves to be a national hero because of his writing and his academic excellence.Let me ask you this question maam, what are the qualification of a person to become a hero?is it only the academic background?I do believe that when we say hero it is someone who make a big impact to our nation.Someone who is brave and make a plan immediately because he knows that time is very precious to waste. And i guess the person that fit to my description as a hero is none other than bonifacio.

hi mam alma i do respect your opinion about through rizal's writing he awakened the spirit of all filipinos to fight for our freedom. But in reality rizal had just already finished more than two novels, poem etc and yet filipinos have been only aware of what rizal wants to imply on his works but they couldnt do something about how they will fight against the spaniards.Until such time Bonifacio make a move to really aim for a change and freedom. I stand for Bonifacio as a national hero

Hi sir! Your comment about the article is good and I respect it. However it is not only Bonifacio who sacrificed his life to get our independence. There are numbers of Filipino people who died during that time also fighting for our independence. Even Rizal sacrificed his life but in a manner that no other people got hurt aside from himself. He used to open the heart and mind his countrymen thru his novels not through violence.

Good day Redg Reyes ,I’m sorry to disagree but for me andres Bonifacio should be the Philippine National Hero because Bonifacio also fought for us. And for me, a true hero is the one who fight man to man just to protect our nation and he also died for us.

Hi! Mr. rex, for me Bonicio should be Our national hero because Bonicio fought and he struggled physically just to aimed freedom against Spaniards and I respect your answer but Rizal only changes the way We think.

Hi Mr. Jay! We may have the same surnames but different thoughts about this article. Anyways I respect yours. I believe that actions speaks louder than words but not all thetime. The courage shown by Bonifacio is thru violence and I akso believe that someone does not have to die just to get what he wants. Most but definitely not all that we are fighting for in this world can be done in peaceful manners where no one is going to get hurt or worse, to die.

Hi Mr. John! Everyone of us here wants to learn fron the opinions of one another. Sorry but I don't think that yours is an informative one. Maybe next time you should give some supporting ideas to justify your answer. We all know that Bonifacio contributed a part of our history and if you strongly believes that he deserves to be a national hero, then it should be understood on the way you argue.

Hi Khristiana Mari, Sorry but I disagree to your statement because as you said Jose Rizal also like to win our country in a peaceful way. there's nothing to do but to fight against Spaniards because Rizal changes the way we think.

I think your opinion is great but for me Andres Bonifacio should be the National hero, he maybe did not used to write novels to awakened Filipino people but he himself do the job by leading our fellow men(KKK) to fight against the cruelty of Spaniards.

Hello Lyka! Nice opinion! Well Andres Bonifacio uses his sword because he needs to. He may be violent but it is for a good cause.

Sorry Mr.Cederick U. Lorenzo but I disagree with your opinion that Jose Rizal is worthy to become our National Hero. Not because he opened our minds by using his pencil is he should be become a National Hero, many people can do that also. Bonifacio is worth to have that title because he will do everything to have us a independence with the Spaniard eventhough in place of his life.

Hi! Good Evening. I just read your comment that Bonifacio is a man who is willing to die for the country. However, Rizal also died for the country. He fought peacefully using his pen not a sword for the violence.

Hi Jay Garcia! I disagree, because Jose Rizal is not using his hands to fight or to kill the spaniards. Instead he used his writings to open the eyes of the Filipinos. He dedicated his life for his countrymen without hesitation.
