Ferdinand Marcos Remains: Be transferred to Heroes’ Cemetery or Not?

FERDINAND EMMANUEL EDRALIN MARCOS, SR. (September 11, 1917 – September 28, 1989) was a Filipino leader and President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He was a lawyer, member of the Philippine House of Representatives (1949–1959) and a member of the Philippine Senate (1959–1965). He was the Senate President from 1963–1965.
While in power, he implemented wide-ranging programs of infrastructure development and economic reform. However, some claim that this was largely overshadowed by his authoritarian way of ruling the country after 1972. His administration was marred by massive corruption, nepotism, political repression, and human rights violations.

Possible reasons for the proposal to transfer his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         His assertion of Martial Law maintained peace and order to the community.
·         New society-educational reforms, labor forms, land reforms social services were made.
·         He built more schools, hospitals and infrastructure than any of his predecessors combined.
·         Crony capitalism was promoted which was intended to redistribute monopolies traditionally owned by Chinese and Mestizo oligarchs to Filipino businessmen.
·         He promoted Filipino culture and nationalism through the establishment of (CCP) Cultural Center of the Philippines in accordance to Executive Order No. 30 s. 1966.

Possible reasons against the transfer of his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         Martial Law was the dark times. He was then a human rights violator, for the tortures among prisoners made by military men.
·         The writ of habeas corpus was suspended; the military picked up and incarcerated many innocent civilians on trumped up charges of sedition. More often than not, these people were convicted without trial, and denied the due process of law.
·         To help finance a number of economic development projects, the Marcos government borrowed large amounts of money from international lenders, making the Philippines one of the most indebted countries in Asia.
·         In practice of the crony capitalism, it led to graft and corruption via bribery, racketeering, and embezzlement. It is estimated that Marcos alone stole at least $5 billion from the Filipino treasury.
·         There were misuse and misapplication of funds “for the construction of the Film Center, where X-rated and pornographic films are exhibited, contrary to public morals and Filipino customs and traditions.

For me, I disagree in the idea of transferring the remains of Marcos in Hero' cemetery because the things that he did is not enough reason. As a president of our country it is his responsibility to make our nation more progressive. Yes he did good things for our country but he also let our nation suffer just to achieve the things he wanted and it is not a sign of being a hero.

This is the reaction to the comment of adrian arcilla. My answer would be: Yes, because even though he's just a president, like Jose Rizal, Marcelo H. Del Pilar and etc. they are concern of seeing our economy change into something better. He even has similarities to Jose Rizal like Rizal's intelligence and willingness to do what is good for the country. As what Marcos did to our country, he fulfilled his duties and responsibilities to improve it. That is why he should also be considered as a hero. Just like us, he also make mistakes. The Martial Law was just made because he wants to discipline the bad people and so the outcome of that law was peace and order to our country. People just thought of him as a bad person because he was influence by those who are around him. But I would say NO to the transfering of his body to the Libingan ng mga bayani because it has been a trademark in Ilocos and people who go there gets to hear and study the things he had done and see what he looks like in person. :)

Ferdinand Marcos Remains: Be transferred to Heroes’ Cemetery or Not? I agree that the remains of the Former President Ferdinand Marcos should be transferred in the Heroes' Cemetery, because although he was cruel in his term and had a bad image in our history, he still made a mark in our Philippine History. He contributed many productive things in our country and also he was a good leader. We should not only look at the negative side of a person, yet, we should also appreciate what he had done for our country and for our fellow men.

I agree that Ferdinand Marcos, should be allowed to be in heroes cemetery..as he is the only President who makes a good improvement in our country, and makes us known throughout the world...so for me with that things he is consider to be a hero also...

I agree that former Pres. Marcos' remains should be transferred at Heroes' cemetery because during the time of his presidency, he made our country more productive and his contributions (schools, hospitals and infrastructure) helped many people and until now we get to use it. During his administration, Filipinos experienced a high standard and disciplinary form of living and that's Marcos' reflection of becoming a good leader. A hero is a person whose actions work to the benefit of the society, not only physically but psychologically and philosophically as well.

No! For me he don't deserve to be transferred to heroes cemetery. Yes he built more schools, hospitals, and infrastructure but that's his job, we can say that he is the best yet he is also the worst, he is a dictator! Many people died during his term. For me hero is a PROTECTOR! Ferdinand Marcos is not,

I disagree that the remains of our late President Ferdinand Marcos should be put in the Heroes' Cemetery. As we all know Ferdinand Marcos repressed the freedom of the people before by implementing the Martial Law. Yes, he did a lot of things for our country but that is not enough to prove himself that he is a hero at the same time, many people will disagree for him to be called a hero of our nation.

From those informations i gathered before and as far as i know things about ferdinand, i definitely disagree because in his term as president a lot of filipinos suffered. For twhat he did to the economy , that was his duty as a pres. to raise it. For me , i don't really treat him as a hero but i salute him. Ü

In a biblical way, it states that human is created from the dust and must be returned to the dust. Late President Ferdinand Marcos was also serving in our country and contributed a lot and what ever mistake that he made to the country he must be forgiven and bring him to a proper place. Marcos is a good president. However, he maybe blame because of his followers.

I believe that Marcos should be buried to Libingan ng mga Bayani despite of what everyone thinks about the Martial Law. Nobody is perfect, nobody knows what is the real recipe on how to rule a country and individuals that were buried at the Heroes' Cemetery were called a hero because of one specific thing they did, they are not focusing on their faults but on their achievements. Like our former President Marcos, he made improvements in our country that, indeed, hasn't fulfilled by all the presidents after him.

I agree, because he did well in maintaining peace in our country. He also built what was more important for the people. And he made the economy of the Philippines to rise.

In my own point of view, former President Marcos should be transferred to Heroes' Cemetery because not all of the deeds of late president Marcos makes Philippines a worst country. Let us also remember that he has done something to boost our economy and level up with other country as one of the progressive countries in Asia. Don't focus to the things that he did wrong but be thankful to all the good things that he did to our country.

Yes, we should give respect to the leaders who once stood before us, those who once fought for our country and for our freedom.

He made the filipino people suffer quite sometime, alot lived in horror, afraid of their lives while in his government. Should a person be declared a hero when he or she has done something that has terrorized the very freedom real heroes die for?

Remains of our former President Marcos should be transfer to the heroes cemetery because for me Marcos should be considered as one of the Philippine Hero. Even though he proclaimed Martial Law, it bring us a good output just like our economy on his regime. We're on the second spot of the riches country in Asia next to Japan.

The remains of our former President Ferdinand Marcos should be transfer to the cemetery of heroes because for me he is a hero. Even though he proclaimed martial law, it has a positive outcome especially in our economy. Remember that we're one of the riches country in Asia during Marcos regime.

this is for "Adrian Arcilla" In my opinion, former President Marcos should be interred at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. His reputation was very good until Imelda literally " shot" it. Even though he made the military stronger, the AFP instead became a hotbed for human rights abuses during his time. That eventually ruined his reputation. He could have been a better president if not for turning the AFP into extreme right-wing politicized "hounds". The AFP now is better under President Noynoy's leadership. The military, I believe is one important basis for judging a president.

"This is for Adrian Arcilla" In respect, President Marcos can be considered as one of the National Heroes.Despite of his bad habits and corrective actions were not the ground for him not to be buried at Libingan. To forgive is to forget as many Filipinos say. President Marcos had contributed a lot of good things to weigh the negativies during his presence from serving people to its personal interests. He was one of the biggest examples of good humanitarian but not the best example of being the best person, individual and the best hero. But still, he can be buried aligning with deserved Filipino heroes.

"this is for Adrian Arcilla" Yes the former President Marcos Sr. should be allowed to be buried in the Heroes Cemetery, For He had done great things for this country, for being a soldier who fought against the Japanese, a legislator and a President of the republic. In his time we are ranked one of the best in our level of education, State of the art hospital equipments are ready for the poorest of poor.
