Ferdinand Marcos Remains: Be transferred to Heroes’ Cemetery or Not?

FERDINAND EMMANUEL EDRALIN MARCOS, SR. (September 11, 1917 – September 28, 1989) was a Filipino leader and President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He was a lawyer, member of the Philippine House of Representatives (1949–1959) and a member of the Philippine Senate (1959–1965). He was the Senate President from 1963–1965.
While in power, he implemented wide-ranging programs of infrastructure development and economic reform. However, some claim that this was largely overshadowed by his authoritarian way of ruling the country after 1972. His administration was marred by massive corruption, nepotism, political repression, and human rights violations.

Possible reasons for the proposal to transfer his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         His assertion of Martial Law maintained peace and order to the community.
·         New society-educational reforms, labor forms, land reforms social services were made.
·         He built more schools, hospitals and infrastructure than any of his predecessors combined.
·         Crony capitalism was promoted which was intended to redistribute monopolies traditionally owned by Chinese and Mestizo oligarchs to Filipino businessmen.
·         He promoted Filipino culture and nationalism through the establishment of (CCP) Cultural Center of the Philippines in accordance to Executive Order No. 30 s. 1966.

Possible reasons against the transfer of his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         Martial Law was the dark times. He was then a human rights violator, for the tortures among prisoners made by military men.
·         The writ of habeas corpus was suspended; the military picked up and incarcerated many innocent civilians on trumped up charges of sedition. More often than not, these people were convicted without trial, and denied the due process of law.
·         To help finance a number of economic development projects, the Marcos government borrowed large amounts of money from international lenders, making the Philippines one of the most indebted countries in Asia.
·         In practice of the crony capitalism, it led to graft and corruption via bribery, racketeering, and embezzlement. It is estimated that Marcos alone stole at least $5 billion from the Filipino treasury.
·         There were misuse and misapplication of funds “for the construction of the Film Center, where X-rated and pornographic films are exhibited, contrary to public morals and Filipino customs and traditions.

For me I want to transfer the Remains of Ferdinand Marcos on Heroes' cemetery because I believed that he deserved to be given peace as a former president. Marcos Martial law is a good decision for me to do, to give filipino discipline and world peace. Nothing to worry about if you are not violating the law.

i think yes, he should be buried in the said cementery, because he do his job well as the president of our country. aside on the part that he used the "Martial Law". but i know that most of the filipino lived on that time learned some lessons on ferdinand marcos' time.

For me he should be remain into his burial site, because he makes a lot damagable things under his leadership eventhough he make Philippines a better country many people didn't forget what he done.

This is the reaction for the comment of Jeffrey Carrascal.

This is a reaction to the comment of Jennifer Monterey.. i disagree with her comment.. Former President Marcos did well to the country, let's just look to the bright side instead of looking to the negative side.. for me, he's one of the best president of the Philippines that he must be transferred to the Heroes' Cemetery..

I'm disagree with the transferring of Marcos's remains to Heroes' Cemetery, simply because Marcos didn't make good things for us to recognize him as a hero.

This is the reaction for the comment of Jeffrey Carrascal.

I agree with Karyl. We can't consider Marcos a Hero because of what he have done to our fellowmen. Therefore, he also can't be transfer to Heroes' Cemetery.

This is in reaction to the comment of Karyl Ladrica. I do agree with her, because he never had the quality of a hero, he violated Human Rights, and he tortured people that are not with his alliance. Hero will not and never did the things he had done. He is not a hero.

This is in reaction to the comment of Karyl. I agree with Karyl. His remains should not be transfer to heroes cemetery, because he had done tragic things in his own country. Maybe he accomplished many things, but it can't be justified by that.

This is in reaction to the comment of Lordilyn Valera. I disagree of what she stated. Marcos is not a hero for me, so why should his remain be transferred to the heroes' cemetery?

I agree that Former Pres. Marcos body shall not be transfer to the Heroes Cemetery, because as Jennifer said, a hero is the one who protect his/her Motherland, not using it as an object to pursue Power to its nation by means of Crimes, A criminal is always a Criminal and he showed it to all of the Filipino people.

This is in the reaction to the comment of Lordilyn. I disagree of what she posted, for me Ferdinand Marcos can't be consider a hero for what he have done to our country and to our fellow filipino.

This is my reaction to the comment of Ms. Jennifer Monterey. I agree for her opinion because when we say hero he/she is heroic behavior or action, thinking of what is the best for his/her country. I asked my parents what Former Pres. Marcos done during his government they said that his government was fruitful because of the development of economy but back of that there is violation done like of human rights, political repression and corruption.

This my reaction to the comment of Willard Reta i agree because being a hero you must absolutely gave good contribution to the country without any intention of greediness to the position in the government. There must be a good background on how you help Philippines to become progressive in the world.

This is in reaction to the comment of Lordilyn Valera. I agree to the statements of her that Ferdinand Marcos should be transfer to the Heroes' Cemetery. Maybe its time to give him forgiveness.

I also agree that Ferdinand Marcos Remains will be transfer to Heroes’ Cemetery because he become the president of the Philippines. It's his right to be transfer in heroes' cemetery and i think no one will disagree that Marcos is the only one that could be able to increase the economy.

This is an reaction to the comment of Jennifer Monterey He should be buried in the "Libingan ng mga Bayani" 1. The best president 2. War Hero 3. True Love for our Country and Patriot. ( After Him ay wala na nagmamahal sa bansa natin na Presidente). 4. Our technologies are well ahead specially in Agriculture. 5. During his presidency, Philippines is a well respected country and most of our neighbors learned and copied our government system. He established the ASEAN, he only thinks the best for the poor (masa) thats why most of his enemies are the rich families like LOPEZ,COJUANCO, etc. People Power is just a waste or a curse. They are hoping for the best after marcos and but it became the worst for the Poor (Masa) because those rich families controlled everything. They destroyed our country. The one who really benefits after Marcos are the Rich families, the corrupts/trash politicians, the greedy foreigners and the rebels.

This is a reaction to the comment of pergentino cuyno I disagree beacause Marcos did a brutal dictatorship when he was the president of the country. and the citizen at that time was experiencing the dark aged of the Phillipines

This is my reaction to Cuyno Pergentino I disagree ako, Bakit pa natin ipapalipat si Marcos sa heroes cemetery e ang dami nyang nagawang masama e.

I would recon to him buried in the Heroes' cemetery. All of us are programmed to see the differences in us. Try as we might, all good that is good in us are shadowed by our darkest sides. And society is going to see the not so good side. We may all now know him only for the dreaded Martial Law. But remember, without him back then, we would not reach Philippines' peak in its economy. I say, bury him in there. "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

Yes.. Filipinos retaliated because of him. But only for the Martial Law he had granted over the nation. Take out the dictatorship, you would wish He's still breathing and running this country. Try to see the other side of Former-Pres. Marcos. He only implemented the Martial Law because of us.. Not because of his greed for power, but for us to be disciplined to the point of scaring the citizens for disobeying the law..

For me, If they don't want Marcos to be transferred in the heroes cemetery, it's ok. Marcos is from Ilocos so he would be glad to buried there. And it doesn't matter if you get buried here or there. People will remember you if in your good deeds not in your remains.

This is a reaction to the comment of John Kevin Galiza. Heroes cemetery is for those who died in protecting or doing something for our country. If you proclaim that Marcos is a hero for you, based on what he did in this presidential term, then He should be transferred there. But if not, then he should not. By judging on his deeds, many of us react based on the Martial Law. But he did Martial Law for our own sake. If you would look at the crime rate and economic status on his term, it is better than this days. So for me, he should be in heroes cemetery.

This is a reaction to the comment of John Kevin Galiza. I agree to Kevin. But it's better to put his remains in the heroes cemetery because a president always thinks whats better for his countrymen. And if you think that the martial law is a form of dictatorial, for me it's not. It's a way of disciplining his people.

This is a reaction to the comment of John Kevin Galiza.

For me former President Ferdinand Marcos remains should transferred in Heroes Cemetery, because more than a dictator, he has served this country long before he turned like that. He was a soldier who defended our country and somehow, we must admit he is great maybe some of his actions are not good but he is great! I think it's time to honor him. And he also made our country famous after all.

this reaction to the comment of Cris Steven Traya I agree na ilibing na si marcos sr. sa libingan ng mga bayani. aminin na natin na may malaking nagawa naman sya sa bansa. for some that still look at him tandang tanda pa nila lahat buy sa mga nabubulagan ng galit eh ang nakikita at tinatandaan lang ay ang mga maling gawa. lahat naman ng nalagay sa position ay may maling nagawa at nagawa naman natin itong kalimutan at palipasin so why not do the same with the man that make the nation change for good or bad.

This is in reaction to the Comment of Cris Steven Traya I agree that Marcos should be transferred because Time should heal all wounds..not burying won't heal anything at all. There should be a sort of arrangement and compromise to make it an acceptable proposition.I hope and pray for our country to get unentagled of it's past and have a clear and brighter future for all the pinoys.

this is response to the comment of John Azel D. De Loreto. I agree, because in his term many people die. and I think that before you buried in Heroes Cemetery you must save the country but Marcos didnt do that but almost destroy the country, kill almost thousand of people.

This is in reaction to the Comment of Cris Steven Traya i disagree, alalahanin natin kung paano pinatay ang freedom of speech. Pag against ka sa kanila kulong or patay ka. Napakaraming nakulong at napakaraming namatay.

I believe that Ferdinand Marcos should not be transferred to heroes' cemetery because he is not a hero to the Filipino people. Yes, we all know what Marcos had done in his whole term, though a lot of facts says he have done great things that no any other Philippine president can ever surpass as of now, but it can't cover up the fact that he send hundreds of thousands to jail during martial law. Marcos government borrowed large amounts of money from international lenders and make himself or his family wealthy while the Philippines is one of the most indebted countries in Asia. During his time he made the military stronger which makes AFP abuse their powers. I don't think that Martial Law maintained peace in our community, because he killed and tortured filipinos and that's not what heroes do.

At the time of Ferdinand Marcos' rule, the country was progressive in terms of economy, and the country was the one of largest producer of crops. He has a lot of contribution and made a lot of changes. On the other hand, he made our country into dictatorial where he's the one in power above all, where later he over-used the power to rule his jurisdictions. His rule where shadowed by cruelty. He tampered on the rights of millions of people. There are so many people who died even though they are innocent. So I would say that Former President Ferdinand Marcos should not be transfered in "Libingan ng mga Bayani".

THIS IS IN REACTION TO THE COMMENT OF ANN JILLY FABIAN: For me, I think he should be transferred. I think its about time to forget all those things he had done.

In my own opinion, Ferdinand Marcos should not be transfer to heroes’ Cemetery because even though he is a great leader or dictator which makes the Filipino to become a good followers and for our country to become more progressive. Marcos affects people life by declaring Martial Law on his presidency. Creating some rally and many Filipinos died because of his abusive power.

Ferdinand Marcos should be transferred to the heroes cemetery, because his intelligence in leadership is compare to other leaders nowadays. It's his right as a former president, as a former soldier, as a be medalled soldier, and it's very clear that that is his right.

In my opinion, he is not worth it to be one of the heroes. He doesn't respect the human rights of many.

This is in reaction to the comment of Kenny R. Roa I think he must be transferred because he is one of the great president of the republic. In his time, Philippines is one of the great countries due to his great leadership.

For me, the remains of the Former Ferdinand E. Marcos should not be transferred in the "Libingan ng mga Bayani". Yes, he did many things for our country in his time, he maintained peace and order to our country, built more schools, hostipals and infrastructure and maintained our economy high but the method he used was not HEROIC at all, he took the freedom of the Filipino people that time for me military force was not HEROIC at all.

This is in reaction to the comment of Kenny R. Roa In my opinion, he is not worth it to be one of the heroes. He doesn't respect the human rights of many.

This is in reaction to the comment of Kenny R. Roa In my opinion, it is his right to be buried in Libingan ng mga bayani because he also is a great soldier that serve the country.

This is the reaction to the comment of JHEN KERVY ALMERO. I disgree. We all know the fact that he has been President of the Phil for how many years. He might have made mistakes, i mean, big mistakes during his term. Might have killed hundreds. Might hve put the country on debt. But that doesnt change the fact that he has been once a respected leader of this country. We might not have forgotten all the bad things he have made, though Im not saying that we should forget abt it, but come on, we're Filipinos. We're known for being good people and being religious. Can we not put evrything aside and let our Good traits reign? A typical Filipino would say, "Ipagpasa Diyos na lang natin". Why cant we do that? The man might not have suffered from everything that he has done, but We know somewhere, he is on full regrets of every thing that he have his countrymen suffered. He is long gone. Let his body be where it should be. I hope where not forgetting the fact that Mr. Marcos has once the best leader of this country that we could ask for.

THIS IS IN REACTION TO THE COMMENT OF ANN JILLY FABIAN: for me, agree ako na ilipat si marcos sa heroes cemetery. although madami siyang na violate na human rights at dahil sa pagdudusa ng tao dahil sa martial law, his remains must be transferred sa libingan ng mga bayani. dahil madami siyang nagawa upang mapaunlad ang bansa, mapaganda at maprotektahan ito sa mga invaders. kaya para sakin karapat dapat syang itransfer sa heroes cemetery.

This is the reaction to the comment of JHEN KERVY ALMERO. yes, kasi bukod sa naging presidente siya naging gerilya din siya, lumaban sya noong panahon ng hapon may point ka na, maraming Pilipino yung naghirap pero kung nangurakot man siya hndi lang sya yung nakagawa nun si Ramos, Erap at lalo na si Gloria nangurakot talaga ng husto sa pera ng bansa natin.
