Ferdinand Marcos Remains: Be transferred to Heroes’ Cemetery or Not?

FERDINAND EMMANUEL EDRALIN MARCOS, SR. (September 11, 1917 – September 28, 1989) was a Filipino leader and President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He was a lawyer, member of the Philippine House of Representatives (1949–1959) and a member of the Philippine Senate (1959–1965). He was the Senate President from 1963–1965.
While in power, he implemented wide-ranging programs of infrastructure development and economic reform. However, some claim that this was largely overshadowed by his authoritarian way of ruling the country after 1972. His administration was marred by massive corruption, nepotism, political repression, and human rights violations.

Possible reasons for the proposal to transfer his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         His assertion of Martial Law maintained peace and order to the community.
·         New society-educational reforms, labor forms, land reforms social services were made.
·         He built more schools, hospitals and infrastructure than any of his predecessors combined.
·         Crony capitalism was promoted which was intended to redistribute monopolies traditionally owned by Chinese and Mestizo oligarchs to Filipino businessmen.
·         He promoted Filipino culture and nationalism through the establishment of (CCP) Cultural Center of the Philippines in accordance to Executive Order No. 30 s. 1966.

Possible reasons against the transfer of his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         Martial Law was the dark times. He was then a human rights violator, for the tortures among prisoners made by military men.
·         The writ of habeas corpus was suspended; the military picked up and incarcerated many innocent civilians on trumped up charges of sedition. More often than not, these people were convicted without trial, and denied the due process of law.
·         To help finance a number of economic development projects, the Marcos government borrowed large amounts of money from international lenders, making the Philippines one of the most indebted countries in Asia.
·         In practice of the crony capitalism, it led to graft and corruption via bribery, racketeering, and embezzlement. It is estimated that Marcos alone stole at least $5 billion from the Filipino treasury.
·         There were misuse and misapplication of funds “for the construction of the Film Center, where X-rated and pornographic films are exhibited, contrary to public morals and Filipino customs and traditions.

Considering the fact that President Marcos has done many great things in our country, the Philippines, it doesn't mean he deserves to be transferred to the Heroes' cemetery because the ability of the heroes is never measured on the great things you've done, it's only measures on you're acts that shows how you love your country and the things you can sacrifice.Yes it's true that during his position the Philippines become prosperous because of the law he implemented, the infrastructures he build and programs for the poor people. But during also his times many innocent people suffered or died because of his tight leadership on the country, he commanded the military men to torture those prisons on the jail that done nothing and others he did, now do you think he has the right to be transferred to the Heroes'cemetery?.

No ,Ferdinand Marcos does not deserve to put in the Heroes cemetery ,because he is not a HERO but a DICTATOR.........

No,Ferdinand Marcos does not deserve to put in the HEroes Cemetery, because he is not a HERO but a PRESIDENT.......

Yes, because if you compare the status of our country before he became the president and during his term there were so many improvements. Our country became more successful in terms of business, infrastructures etc. Compare to the other politicians who just make bad gossips about Marcos.

Transferring the body of Former President Ferdinand Marcos in Heroes' cemetery is not a good idea for me because he's not the kind of hero that we call, one of the reason is he is the one who violates the human rights.Okay, we say that he have also done a lot of good things in our country but its doesn't change the fact that we don't have a freedom that we want .And if transferring body of Marcos happened all the things that he have done have brought injustice during his dictatorship will be taken for granted.

I agree, Former President Ferdinand Marcos should be transfer to Heroes Cemetery because he did his responsibilities as a president during his times. He is a great leader for us because our country became rich when he is our president.

Ferdinand Marcos is a good authoritarian, indeed he earned many citations for his works. on the other hand, many Filipino's opposed from his self-rule. But in terms of transferring his decaying body to a heroes cemetery. I conclude that many Filipino's will resist moreover unions arise. But we can't blame them, not showing respect for him and concern for his family is not rude nor ignorant it shows that we can forgive but we can't forget.

Ferdinand Marcos Remains: Be transferred to Heroes’ Cemetery or Not? Although Former President Ferdinand Marcos was a cruel in his term and had a bad image in our history because he implemented Martial Law in his regime. I still agree that he should be transferred into Heroes Cementery because he made a mark in our Philippine History. He contributed many productive things in our country also he was a good leader in his term which we can't see because we always look for the negative side of a person.

Bonifacio called Rizal a coward because Bonifacio has his own vision in terms of "FIGHTING FOR THE FATHERLAND'S FREEDOM". What he means on calling Rizal as coward is he just want to fight LITERALLY, with power and strength because for him, invaders will only ignore those materials (Rizal's works) but if they will show the invaders that they can fight with armors, he think that invaders will set us free and give the FREEDOM we really need. Even though on his accusation to Rizal, it was obviously that Bonifacio was inspired on Rizal's works.

Yes, Marcos was a dictator, he proclaimed Martial Law and took the citizen's money land, but he contributed a lot to our country. He built more building than his predecessors combined and gave equality to people. Also, everyone believed in him, that's why he became president.

I agree because in Marcos times, the economy in our country became stable. He also decided to have a martial law to organize Filipino people to have discipline and respect for each other. Last but not the least, Marcos build schools, and infrastracture for us, to make our life living more easier.

I bet to disagree. We all know that because of him why we had the Martial Law which made our lives limited of what we do. Yes, he made so many things for the Philippines as he made it one of the richest country but despite of it we can't consider him to transfer at Heroes Cemetery because as far as I know he tried to be a corrupt because of his wife Imelda,he did not sacrificed his life to give what Filipinos want, our independence(rather his life to rule the country) unlike those heroes we knew.

I believe that Marcos should be buried to Libingan ng mga Bayani despite of what everyone thinks about the Martial Law. Nobody is perfect, nobody knows what is the real recipe on how to rule a country and individuals that were buried at the Heroes' Cemetery were called a hero because of one specific thing they did, they are not focusing on their faults but on their achievements. Like our former President Marcos, he made improvements in our country that, indeed, hasn't fulfilled by all the presidents after him.

Ferdinand Marcos has his right to be transferred to the heroes cemetery. Even he is known as brutal to other people it doesnt mean hes not good enough we know he did it for a reason. And even other people said that he is corrupt still he build a lot of good changes in this country.

It is really a big issue for everyone most especially for those who became a victim of the martial law, to know that there was a possibility of transferring the body of the former president Ferdinand Marcos to the heroes’ cemetery because of what he have done when he was the president of the Philippines. However, for my own perception, I agree in transferring the body of our former president in the heroes’ cemetery because after all, he just wanted us to make our country in good state even though we are under of the martial law. I know that someone will be against in my own opinion but still we must consider the things he have done for our country, somehow, the positive side of the Martial Law that he implemented helped our Filipino men; to discipline ourselves and learned to be authorized in a good way.

Yes, former President Ferdinand Marcos also deserves to be buried at the libingan ng mga bayani because he also once served as a good president for our country before his governance was tainted by the acts of wicked minded people around him. Though he had mistakes, we cannot also deny the fact that he also did a lot of good things for our country, which merits him to be recognized as a hero. Let the remains of the past be rested on the right place already so that we can also move on towards building a better future for our country and fellowmen.

It does not mean that if Marcos will be buried at the libingan ng mga bayani that all the victims of abuses will be forgotten already. They could still clamor for justice, but it has nothing to do already on this issue.

For me, I disagree, Ferdinand Marcos wasn't one of the people to the proposal to transfer his remains to heroes’ cemetery the possible reasons are his responsibilities being the president. And yet, he violate some human act by the laws he implemented the time of his administration. But the leadership he showed to his people is great help for the economy.
