JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was the inspiration and thus wrongly implicated as the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal Day. (Read: Jose Rizal's Contribution)

As a political figure, José Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan. He was a proponent of achieving Philippine self-government peacefully through institutional reform rather than through violent revolution, and would only support "violent means" as a last resort. (Wikipedia)

ANDRÉS BONIFACIO y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897)

He was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He is often called "the father of the Philippine Revolution". Bonifacio was a founder and later Supremo ("supreme leader") of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution.

He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines, and is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first President, but he is not officially recognized as such. (Wikipedia)

EMILIO AGUINALDO y Famy (22 March 1869 – 6 February 1964)

He was a Filipino general, politician, and independence leader. He had an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine–American War or War of Philippine Independence that resisted American occupation ... (continue reading)

Aguinaldo became the Philippines' first president. He was also the youngest (at age 28) to have become the country's president, the longest-lived former president (having survived to age 94) and the president to have outlived the most number of successors. (Wikipedia)

Bonifacio. kasi mas consistent sya sa pakikipalaban for filipinos. di man sya nakapag aral sa kunga saan aaan na bansa, yung heart nya for the country was totally in flame. sya mismo yung kasama sa pakikipglaban.

For me Rizal really deserves this title. Obviously he showed how great is he during the time our country was under colonized. The bravery that he implemented was really amazing, that touched the heart of every Filipinos to fight without the sense of doubt and betrayal. Although Aguinaldo and Bonifacio contributed a lot in our independence, Rizal makes it the best.

Should it be Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, or Emilio Aguinaldo? For me, still Jose Rizal should be the National Hero for he sacrificed his own life for his fellowmen. He fought without violent actions but instead he poured his rights to fight for his country by the use of a pen and paper. He used his intelligence in a wise way that he didn't complain on what could happen to him when he pursue his way of fighting. Because of his courage, we achieved independence and peace in our land.

I think Dr. Jose Rizal deserves to be called the Philippine National Hero because he’s a multifaceted individual both through the mind and manipulative areas, not to mention his inherit character and the love to people, especially to the poor. His sensitivity to the needs of others was overwhelming as evidenced by his sincere services to the people as doctor, engineer, teacher, artist, farmer and the like. He fought through his pen, books and knowledge. He did not fight through guns and swords. With the articles he has written, of which most of the topics discussed were all about slavery and abused, he has touched lives, awakened the people, but also provoked the Spaniards thus sent him to jail. But even then, he was still fighting, not for himself or for his family, but more for his people, for us through his ideas, through poems and other written articles.

I disagree with you that Rizal deserves to be the Philippine National Hero. I think it should be Andres Bonifacio because I believe that action speaks louder than words, he is the one who fought the Spaniards even though it may lead to his death.

"Leaders become great not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower other" -John Maxwell I agree that Dr. Jose Rizal must be the Philippine National Hero because he proved that even if he doesn't have the authority or power to lead his fellow countrymen, still he has done something that no else can do, and that is to inspire and motivate the people to fight for what is right without the use of any armor.

I agree with you! Rizal is the right one for the title of Phil/National Hero because of his great contribution to our country. He is an extraordinary man.

Being a Hero is not based on how many enemy you killed in a battle but it is the significant/magnitude that you do to affected the lives and awakened the people. For me, Its still Dr. Jose Rizal that should be a national Hero because he used a peaceful means in awakening or touching the awareness of the people. He uses the power of intellect in order to communicate and encourage the Filipino people to unite.

I think Jose Rizal shouldn't be our National Hero. He only wrote two books, bargained with the Spaniards. Big deal, Andres Bonifacio on the other hand, started a revolution against our former oppressors. Jose Rizal wanted the country to be a province of Spain, while Andres Bonifacio wanted our own sovereignty.

For me Dr.Jose Rizal should be the Philippine National Hero because he is the one of the most influential man in the Philippines, in the sense of writing. He proved to us that "a pen is really mightier than a sword".

For me, it should be Andres Bonifacio. Why? Because Andres Bonifacio's goal was total separation from the Spaniards. He believed that we should have total independence and our own government. A government run by Filipinos.

I disagree that Rizal should be our National Hero because he only wanted to have an equality. But why did we need a equality if we can have our own country? It's better to be Andres Bonifacio, because he put it into action although the idea of freedom is from Rizal. What is idea without action? We all know that action speaks louder than words.

DR. JOSE RIZAL Dr. Jose Rizal deserves to be honored as our national hero. Because he had set us all free from slavery and better education. He’s a very good example and an inspiration to us, most specially to students because of his intelligence. And he had proven the saying that goes, ”A pen is mightier than sword”.

I don't agree with you! Andres Bonifacio is much deserve to be our national hero. He is the one who revolt for our freedom. Because of him that's why we are not under spanish colony.

I don't agree with you! I know that we have our own opinion about this article. For me Andres Bonifacio deserve to be our national hero. He is brave enough to fight for our freedom. He used violence for our independence.

I agree with you! Rizal fight for our freedom using a diplomatic strategy. He move slowly but surely. Even tough his only weapon is pen. He overcome all the struggle for our better country.

I will go for Rizal, because he took a more peaceful approach in persuading the Filipino People in their inequalities and abused under the Spanish Government. He also authored the two novel that described the situation of his countrymen.

I agree with you. Dr. Jose Rizal really deserves to be our national hero. Because he fought through his pen, books and knowledge. He did not fight through guns and swords. He is a good example for the youth.

For me Jose Rizal should be the Philippine national hero. He influenced Filipino masses by his novels, essays and writings. He give an exceptional service to his countrymen. He fought for freedom in a non violence way.

I agree, that rizal is our national hero because he was capable of revolutionizing the way the Filipino thought. He was able to stir people's inner spirit when he was about to make any speech.

for me, it will also be Dr.Jose Rizal because he opted not to go for violence to attain peace and freedom for our country instead he used his writings to open the eyes and heart of the Filipinos for the nationalism. He dedicated his life for his countrymen without hesitation. He has an exemplary of Filipino values. He has a silent way but powerful.

For me, Jose Rizal still deserves to be our national hero because he sacrifices himself in order for our country to gain freedom from Spaniards. He also awakened the minds of our countrymen by the influence of his writings. He didn't use violence to defend our country rather he inspired other national heroes by his nationalistic deeds.

for me its rizal. because he's brave, strong, smart and a role model like a king.

Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y. Alonso Realonda should truly be our national hero for he might not join the revolution, but he is a big part of it and rather than imitate others to use violence or force, he choose the peaceful and orderly way to enlighten the heart of his countrymen .

I Agree with you that DR. JOSE RIZAL should be the Philippine National HERO because the only thing he has is his knowledge and inspiration to defend us during Spanish Era. He fight with all his heart even though he know that this thing will cause him to death. He face his death with no worries and he loved our country more than to his life.

I chose Andres Bonifacio among the three. Why? Simply because I believe that Dr. Jose Rizal was a big big drawing back then. He used to tell people about what was happening just to inform them, not to save them. And giving information is different from including yourself in the picture. I consider Jose Rizal as a quince here. The point is, there were a lot of ways to show that he truly cared for Filipino people. Many concerned citizens also did exactly what he has done. HOWEVER, the question is... why do those people never reached the qualifications to become the #1 national hero? Basically, Dr. Jose Rizal got the position because Americans told us that he should and must be. So for me Andres Bonifacio should be our HERO.

I disagree with you because for me its Andres Bonifacio because he sacrifice himself for the freedom of our country , he fought until he die.He strive and struggled his life to depend the people and the country to the Spaniards while Dr. Jose Rizal fought for the changes of our country not for freedom .

For me Dr.Jose Rizal should be the Philippine national hero because, he is the one of the most influential man in the Philippines, in the sense of writing. He prove to us that" a pen is really mightier than a sword".

A good day to you ma'am but I beg to disagree with you that Dr. Jose Rizal should be our National Hero, because for me it should be Emilio Aguinaldo. Because he is the instrument why we the Filipino have to be independent in the Spanish before. a side from that he is the Philippine First President so he deserve to be our National Hero as well.

i agree with you that it should be rizal because his achievements is incomparable with bonifacio and aguinaldo.

for me, Rizal deserves to be the Philippine national hero because he sacrificed himself for our freedom. Rizal awakened the minds of our countrymen and influence them by his novels. he didn't use any violence way in seeking freedom, but rather use his writings against the Spaniards.

I disagree that Jose Rizal should be the phil. national hero. Because for me its Andres Bonifacio should be the hero at his own credit.

For me Dr.Jose Rizal should be the Philippine national hero because he is the one of the most influential man in the Philippines in the sense of writing. He proved to us that "a pen is really mightier than a sword".

For me, Jose Rizal deserves to be our National Hero. He was able to show our countrymen how to bring change without violence. He uses his own fortune, time and effort to care for his countrymen, as he did when he opened his clinic in Hong Kong and in Dapitan. He sacrifices his love life and a quiet life to gather knowledge around the world that would be helpful in the struggle for reforms in the country.

okay okay, i got your point though it seems pointless to argue who deserves more. first and foremost, Rizal, Bonifacio, and Aguinaldo were all Filipinos, wise men from the Archipelago. All could be called "ROLE MODELS" for the youth and to the entire Filipino community. They have their own, different ways, or strategies on how they've fought the great colonizers. I think, it's already enough for them to have recognition as great men back then, and we should thankful for that, but here's my point, they're only the few out of millions and billions who've fought for the country's autonomy. They're not also the Illustrados who helped the revolutionizing Filipinos. We should honor all the brothers and sisters who offered their bloods and guts to fight til they die just to have the freedom from slavery and political oppression of the powerful colonial groups. So i would say, I disagree on your side, but I won't agree for the two either (Bonifacio and Aguinaldo). it's just pointless to compare all the great men and argue for who should be the national hero. come on fellas! it's like counting your deeds and lifting your own chair. How about those men who fought for the country's freedom but their lives weren't recorded because they're not that influential and popular. It's quite inappropriate to us being a God centered and fearing country. Heroes should be treated with equal respect. :)that's all.

I agree with you. Dr. Jose Rizal deserves to be called as our National Hero because he is a perfect example of Man who's willing to sacrifice his life just to give our country a freedom and independence that we need. Moreover,he proved to us that Pen is mightier than sword.

I think, it is just right to have Jose Rizal as our national hero because he had done many things that influenced and really opened the eyes of our fellow countrymen during Spanish colonial government. Until now, we can still see his great impact to our society. Through his works, many among us learned that violence is not really the key in attaining freedom. I cannot see anything wrong in choosing him as our national hero.
