Ferdinand Marcos Remains: Be transferred to Heroes’ Cemetery or Not?

FERDINAND EMMANUEL EDRALIN MARCOS, SR. (September 11, 1917 – September 28, 1989) was a Filipino leader and President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He was a lawyer, member of the Philippine House of Representatives (1949–1959) and a member of the Philippine Senate (1959–1965). He was the Senate President from 1963–1965.
While in power, he implemented wide-ranging programs of infrastructure development and economic reform. However, some claim that this was largely overshadowed by his authoritarian way of ruling the country after 1972. His administration was marred by massive corruption, nepotism, political repression, and human rights violations.

Possible reasons for the proposal to transfer his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         His assertion of Martial Law maintained peace and order to the community.
·         New society-educational reforms, labor forms, land reforms social services were made.
·         He built more schools, hospitals and infrastructure than any of his predecessors combined.
·         Crony capitalism was promoted which was intended to redistribute monopolies traditionally owned by Chinese and Mestizo oligarchs to Filipino businessmen.
·         He promoted Filipino culture and nationalism through the establishment of (CCP) Cultural Center of the Philippines in accordance to Executive Order No. 30 s. 1966.

Possible reasons against the transfer of his remains to heroes’ cemetery:
·         Martial Law was the dark times. He was then a human rights violator, for the tortures among prisoners made by military men.
·         The writ of habeas corpus was suspended; the military picked up and incarcerated many innocent civilians on trumped up charges of sedition. More often than not, these people were convicted without trial, and denied the due process of law.
·         To help finance a number of economic development projects, the Marcos government borrowed large amounts of money from international lenders, making the Philippines one of the most indebted countries in Asia.
·         In practice of the crony capitalism, it led to graft and corruption via bribery, racketeering, and embezzlement. It is estimated that Marcos alone stole at least $5 billion from the Filipino treasury.
·         There were misuse and misapplication of funds “for the construction of the Film Center, where X-rated and pornographic films are exhibited, contrary to public morals and Filipino customs and traditions.

This is the reaction to the comment of JHEN KERVY ALMERO.

I don't agree that Pres. Marcos remains, will be transfer in Heroes Cemetery, Why? It is because Yes, He's one of the disciplined President that came into our motherland, He's too disciplinary and came to a point that He used to punished or killed people that opposed Him. While He use his power for the country as well as His own good. That's why they have an ill-gotten wealth up to now we doesn't know where is it. Being in the heroes cemetery are for the one's that gave everything even their own life to give benefits for the country nor themselves. For me, Marcos doesn't gave all of His everything and benefits himself instead.

He is the one for me.

even though he is pain in the ass during his term i'll considered him to be transferred to heroes . just look in the bright side .. gumawa sya ng hakbang para maging huwaran sya na di dapat tayo mga pilipino maging katulad nya..

I agreed to his comment. The former president Ferdinand Marcos is the best president the islands has ever had, he produced more projects and applied them without corruption than all the presidents combined,he has done a good job as a international figure which has actually put the Philippines as one of the powerful countries in Asia, but he became a dictator, he wanted absolute discipline for the people.

Great President, a ruler are just few words that could describe Ferdinand Marcos. His uniqueness of handling and running the government in his term was indescribable making him as one of the most popular Presidents of the Philippines. In my own opinion, the remains of the former president should be transferred in the Heroes’ Cemetery also known as “Libingan ng mga Bayani” where I think is the right place for reasons that he had contributed a lot of things not only for Filipinos but also for the whole country. Martial Law was implemented to promote peace and order to the community, this law had practiced maybe the right way of disciplining people. Ferdinand Marcos also implemented a number of economic programs which helped the country to enjoy the period of economic growth, that time the Philippines was named as the most progressive country in Asia. Lastly, many infrastructures, school and hospitals were built. Finally, true heroes create small things in their own way to help other people. A small thing with great contributions is what Ferdinand Marcos showed us.

I disagree to his comment.Marcos created a political atmosphere of crisis and fear of a mounting insurgency that were all fabricated. He later used these to justify his imposition of martial law.

This is in reaction to the comment of REINAFEL M. ESTOPIN.. I don't agree with this. I think everyone could be a hero in their own ways, it's just that not all of us can be recognized or maybe even given a chance. As for late Mr. Marcos. He once became the president of the Philippines, done so many things that have helped us. But I think he never had sacrifices just for the betterment of our country, which a hero should have do.

Marcos may be a hero to his family and some friends, but, to many of his generation and those that followed thereafter, he continues to be the villain that does not deserve an inch of ground at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. But he desever to be at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

This is in reaction to the comment of REINAFEL M. ESTOPIN.. para sakin hndi dapat, kase hindi naman kabayanihang matatawag ang ginawa nyang martial law sating bansa, at hindi makatarungan ang pagpapahirap sa mga taong sumasalungat sa kagustuhan nya para lang masabing wala siyang maling ginagawa, at naniniwala pa rin akong may ibang paraan pa para madisiplina ang mga tao.

This is in Reaction to the comment of REINAFEL M. ESTOPIN .. I Agree to you rein that Ferdinand Marcos Remains: should not be transferred to heroes cemetery because if you going to read our history, the people fight against Marcos. People fight for their freedom against him. If we just put or rather be transferred Marcos to the heroes cemetery its just like we don't worth our freedom today and ignore people that sacrifices and fight our freedom. And also Filipino don't acknowledged him.

This is my reaction to Willard Reta's comment I agree with him, Why? is it because Yes, It's true that we are one of the most rich country in Asia in the time when Pres. Marcos is reigning. But He over use his power, He killed a lot of innocent people that opposed him, and He used to stole money from the people's money because of their ill-gotten wealth. There are a lot of deserving people to place in the Heroes Cemetery rather than Him. :)

This is in reaction to the comment of Bryan Famini I think in honest opinion former president Ferdinand Marcos' remains should be transfer to Libingan ng mga Bayani. So be it that he have done wrong doings in the past and violated the rights of some Filipinos but he’s still our former president that his remains is entitled to be held inside that cemetery. No matter what he has done must give benefit to the doubt and think in some ways he have done that for the interest of Filipinos.

I do agree in transferring former Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos' remains to the Heroes Cemetery. Pres. Ferdinand Marcos should be treated as one of our hero and deserved to bring his remains in Heroes Cemetery. We can say that under the Marcos regime, Philippines was ruled by the dictatorial government instead of democratic. He acted as a dictator but oh the other hand, we Filipinos achieved a high standard of living. Our economy was on its highest peak and no other country in Asia can control us by that time. There are rumors that Marcos is the prime suspect in the death of Ninoy Aquino, but on the contrary i believe that he wasn't the one who has the guilt for that crime.

This is in reaction to the comment of Dianara Padiernos. Yes I agree in transferring his remains in the Heroes Cemetery. He deserved it, because of his achievements when he was still the President. The economy back then was better than today. Our country's reputation among Asian countries was higher. And besides Pres. Marcos' case of killing Ninoy Aquino has not been proven yet. That's why maybe the govenrment should consider transferring the body of our late Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos at the Heroes Cemetery

This is in reaction to the comment of Dianara Padiernos.

This is in reaction to the comment of Dianara Padiernos.

this my reaction to the comment of Willard Reta. i agree because being a hero you must absolutely gave good contribution to the country without any intention of greediness to the position in the government. There must be a good background on how you help Philippines to become progressive in the world.

This is my reaction to the comment of Nerissa Razon. For me, ferdinand marcos can b transfered to Libingan ng mga Bayani. I think it is now the time to look back on what marcos had been contributed in our country. He is qualified to be buried in the heroes cemetery. He was a great disciplinarian and ruler.

This my reaction to the comment of Nerissa Razon Para sa akin opinion. May kasabihan nga sa English na (past is past), move on.

This is my reaction to the comment of Nerissa Razon I agree in her that ferdinand marcos should not be transfered in the heroes cemetery. There are a lot of people who suffered during his time. He strictly imposed the Martial Law which implies curfew and no one is allowed to talk or to write anything that is against the government.

For me, Ferdinand Marcos remains should not be transferred to Heroes' Cemetery. Why? Although Marcos has done a lot in our society, still he's not a hero. We all know how massive the human rights abuses during the Marcos regime. In some reasons, he also bring the Philippines down.

Late President Marcos should not be buried in Heroes’ Cemetery because for me he is not a hero. He maybe a president but that was his job, his duties and for all we know half of the wealth for the country goes to him. Like the declaration of Martial Law, he controlled everything using Kamay na Bakal. No freedom of speak, people has no voice except his laws.

This is my reaction to the comment of Karisse Ann Lizardo The Libingan ng mga Bayani was built to honor our heroes. I don't think it will make any difference if Marcos will be transferred or not to the Libingan ng mga Bayani. If he is truly a hero, even if he remains in Batac, Ilocos, he will forever be remembered and honored as a hero even if he is not in the Libingan..On the other hand, if he is not a hero at all, then even if he is transferred to the Libingan ng mga Bayani as a "bayani", the memory of him as corrupt and a dictator will always far overshadow his being a "hero" and therefore even if he is already in the Libingan, he will still not be honored as "bayani". So for me i will not say i agree or i disagree, because wherever he will be, the fact of his life and works remains in our memory. The question then becomes irrelevant.

This is my reaction to the comment of Karisse Ann Lizardo I disagree with her because Marcos also aimed not for his own good but also for the good of the entire country. In his time, Philippines rose as one of the strongest countries in south East Asia, in terms of the strength of the economy and also one of the shiniest countries in the limelight of national success.

This is my reaction to the comment of Karisse Ann Lizardo Disagree kasi the family has the right to decide for the remains of marcos. Whatever the cause maybe, still the family has the ultimate right where does marcos remains should be. Even if marcos is a public figure, some of his constituents and people doesn’t want him to be buried at libingan ng mga bayani, but no other person can convey rights to his remains but his own family.

this is the reaction to the comment of Lady Antoniette Ingco. disagree po ako dahil si Marcos ang unang president na nagpaunlad ng ekonomiya ng ating bansa.

I believed that Ferdinand Marcos has his right to be transferred to the Heroes Cemetery because he still served our country as a president. Even if we say that during his term were the dark days,he still manages to improve our economy. His methods are just too harsh but it helps in our economic growth.

This is in reaction to the comment of Jamaila Noliar: I don't agree kasi mas malaki ang nagawa nyang kasalanan sa bayan kaysa sa mga na'achieved nya para dito.

This is in reaction to the comment of Jamaila Noliar: I also believed that his remains be transferred because according to the law, he has the right to be buried in Libingan ng mga Bayani.

I disagree to transfer the remains of Ferdinand Marcos at the Heroes Cemetery. There's a process before being buried there, there's actually a requirement. If Ferdinand Marcos let's say passed the requirements and given the opportunity to be transferred, i would still disagree because, for me, the meaning of heroism is someone who is willing to do everything for the sake of his/her countrymen regardless of what he will gain and as far as i know, he did great for our country but behind those greatness are people living their everyday life in prison or others pertain it like hell. You will never be known for your greatness if it's a fruit of your evilness.

This is in reaction to comment of Jamaila Noliar: I agree that his remains be tansferred in the cemetery for heroes because he is a great ruler. Maybe for others they say that he is graft corrupt but we have to remember that during his terms, we are the # 1 country in south east asia in terms of economy and military. Besides, when someone became a president, he is automatically considered as a hero because he guide a country.

This is in reaction to the comment of Lady Antoniette Ingco. i agree to her na hindi ilipat sa libingan ng mga bayani si marcos kasi para sakin hindi sya maituturing na bayani. ang iniisip nya ay power, not the will to serve the people.

This is in reaction to the comment of Lady Antoniette Ingco.

This is in reaction to the comment of Lady Antoniette Ingco. I disagree with her because marcos is a president that has the right to be buried in the proper resting place along other heroes. Even a police dog were buried in heroes cemetery, so why not a president who rule our country? maybe he is not a good man but, he is certainly a great leader.

This is in reaction to the comment of Ms. Louise Ina F. Aquino.

This is in reaction to the comment of Ms. Louise Ina F. Aquino. I agree on your statement. I also dont think he belong to the line of heroes there. Yes, we all know he did a lot to our country but, the honor he gave to us and the memories he leave to us were worthless.

This is in reaction to the comment of Ms. Louise Ina F. Aquino.

No. His remains should not be transferred to Libingan ng mga Bayani. Literally speaking, the Heroes' Cemetery is meant for heroes -- those who were admired for their achievements, noble qualities and great courage. -- those who sought for equality, justice and good things for his fellowmen. As for me, Ferdinand Marcos is not a hero even if we say that he did improvements in the state of the country. However, we cannot deny the fact that "he brought his country to ruin, which is the opposite of what heroes accomplish in their lifetime." (quoted from an article I've read) He is a human-rights violator. During his rule, there are summary executions, enforced disappearances, illegal arrest and detention, and torture. How can a hero bring such disastrous fate to those who entrusted him the power as the president? There is no freedom and no justice (the two things most heroes fight for). He made the Philippines one of the most indebted countries in Asia. We are saying that we had good economy during his time. Well, the government borrowed large amounts and now, we are submerged in great international debts. There are accounts that he stole from the Philippine Treasury. In addition to this, there were issues of misuse of funds. Now, where is the good economy part here? ----- Note: I do respect Marcos, just like how I respect all of the leaders of our nation. Although he is not a hero, he is still a president.
