JOSÉ Protasio RIZAL Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896)

He was a Filipino nationalist and reformist and the most prominent advocate for reform in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was the inspiration and thus wrongly implicated as the leader of the Katipunan Revolution, and that led to his execution on December 30, 1896, now celebrated as Rizal Day. (Read: Jose Rizal's Contribution)

As a political figure, José Rizal was the founder of La Liga Filipina, a civic organization that subsequently gave birth to the Katipunan. He was a proponent of achieving Philippine self-government peacefully through institutional reform rather than through violent revolution, and would only support "violent means" as a last resort. (Wikipedia)

ANDRÉS BONIFACIO y de Castro (30 November 1863 – 10 May 1897)

He was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He is often called "the father of the Philippine Revolution". Bonifacio was a founder and later Supremo ("supreme leader") of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution.

He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines, and is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first President, but he is not officially recognized as such. (Wikipedia)

EMILIO AGUINALDO y Famy (22 March 1869 – 6 February 1964)

He was a Filipino general, politician, and independence leader. He had an instrumental role during the Philippines' revolution against Spain, and the subsequent Philippine–American War or War of Philippine Independence that resisted American occupation ... (continue reading)

Aguinaldo became the Philippines' first president. He was also the youngest (at age 28) to have become the country's president, the longest-lived former president (having survived to age 94) and the president to have outlived the most number of successors. (Wikipedia)

In response to Emmanuel James Nadres I strongly agree for choosing Dr. Jose Rizal, Primarily The great part of Dr. Rizal’s relevance to the lives of Filipinos is, ironically, the fact that the social problems that our hero had fought for in his lifetime are tragically still plaguing our homeland today.

We all know that these three hero have done great in our country. But I choose what Jose Rizal did because of his being true to our country, his nationality inspired us to love our country, to fight for what are our rights and not to let others to belittle us.

For me, I agree with him. Because in our generation we know what's behind the story of Jose Rizal. For starters, He fought for us(filipinos) Second, He made us see what life is all about. He sacrificed his valuable life for us. And for that I think He is deserving for that part :) ~ @dreamingella

I agree to you kuya Michael. If I were to choose our national hero, I would also choose Jose Rizal for all the things he have done. With his novels, he exposed the bad doings of the Spaniards that served as an eye opener for the other Filipinos and added fuel to their burning hearts to seek more for the freedom of our country.

Rizal wore his convictions well. A really rare trait in today's youth. If the man alone is the only one to receive credit, I am pretty sure that Rizal himself will considerably give credit to the people around him who are like-minded and viewed the same perspective as he did. Else, Rizal won't be able to do what he did if he didn't stood beside like-minded people that are aware of this so called reality. Influence is a great contributing factor for Rizal. Without influence, Rizal won't be able to do what he did.

Sagot sa tanong ni Ian J.R: It should be Jose Rizal, why?because he fearlessly faced the consequences behind what he have written about the the Filipino's sufferings. He should be the national hero coz he left a remarkable words of wisdom for us to become a "hero" in our own ways.He fought by words as well as He became a hero with love until the day he died for our country.

In reply to Emmanuel James Nadres' comment, I do agree that Rizal should be the star. He wore his convictions well and I am pretty sure he wont simply take credit, but give it where it is due. He wont be able to do if he did not stood side by side with the like-minded people. Influence is a very big contributing factor in which Rizal played with the influences he gained from others. But always remember that the war was won by soldiers. Not rifles, not swords, not even books but soldiers. Rizal simply wrote a book to ignite the fire within us Filipinos in order to realize the reality that Nadres' speaks of

In reply to Emmanuel James Nadres, Jose Rizal being our National Hero is just right. He was chosen already and no need to change it anymore since it's written all over the world in the years passed. And also, why should you disagree about him (Jose Rizal) being our National Hero, right? We didn't know how much effort he've done while he was trying to save the Filipino people from the colonizers and also, he's the one who opened the eyes of the Filipinos without harming others, just through pen and paper. He's a good example of no warrior uses only his sword, but also knows that in a fight, it's always intellect first, not strength. After all, if we don't think on how to fight, we won't win in any way, no matter how trained or strong we are. And a good example also for using a calm stabbing, by putting up just words and not shedding blood. And instead, he was also killed, still hoping that the Filipinos at that time should not think of violence, hence, fight in a way, where we live for our country, not die.

To: Blanca Zoleta I choose DR. JOSE RIZAL.

I choose Andres Bonifacio, because he did his best and even his life to fight for our country's independence. Giving your life for the sake of others is a genuine love not only on your country but also for the future of your fellow men.

For me, Rizal should be the Philippine National Hero not only because he wanted peaceful reforms first in fighting for the rights of Filipino people, and setting a violent revolution as a last resort. But because he also used almost all of his skills, intelligence and time in contributing good things to the needs of his fellow countrymen in their daily lives.

Dr. Jose Rizal became our national hero because he inspired everyone with his writings (yes, even bonifacio). His weapon was his pen, his power came from his mind, he started his own battle against the spaniards and he was the one who woke up the minds of the filipinos.

My answer is for Liezelle A. Pinque: Jose Rizal deserves to be the Philippine national hero in his fatherland because he motivates everyone to fight for our freedom. He ha undying love for his native land to conquer the injustices of the Spanish colonial. "A pen ia mightier than sword", through this we can say that his writings is so powerful. He sacrifices his life to our country to gather information that would help in fighting for our freedom.

Of all the three great heroes, Jose Rizal should be our national hero. He fought for our country with his powerful mind and love using words and that was has been the key in any part of revolution since his works has publicized in order to fight for freedom.

This is my answer to Eric John V. Duenas: Jose Rizal deserves the title of being our National Hero. Because he proved everyone that we can obtain peace without using guns and swords. Instead, he used his intelligence to be the voice of everyone through his novels.

This is my reply to John Carlo's comment: I Agree, Bonifacio is a better candidate as the Philippine National Hero. for he is the one who Initiated the start of the fight for the freedom of the Philippines. even at his of schooling, he manage to create a fully functioning brotherhood for the freedom of the people.

I agree with Angelica. As the saying goes, "the pen is mightier than the sword". Through Rizal's writing, he was able to send the message to his fellow kababayans and awaken their sleeping minds about what was truly happening during the time when the Spaniards tried to colonized our country.

Agree ako n si Rizal. addition: Also, among the three, Rizal was the one who chose to fight in a more peaceful way and that is thru writings of his sentiments and disagreements towards the Spanish.

I must agree that Jose Rizal inspired the Filipinos to fight for their independence by sacrificing his own life for the people .

My answer to Sheen Respondo: Para sa akin pareho silang maituturing dakilang bayani dahil parehas nilang pinagtanggol ang bansang pilipinas.

For me, Jose Rizal should be the National Hero because he fought for our country using his mind and pen. Nowadays, it was an inspiration for all of us that words are mightier than sword and we can apply this to everything we want to achieve. He is a true role model of being a Filipino for his great love to our country. He showed the world what Filipinos can really do in his generation.
