Philippine Education: On producing globally competitive workforce

HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE PHILIPPINES must be evaluated in terms of the quality of its graduates and their contribution to the needs of our society and nation. How can the management of higher education institutions be made more effective and efficient in order to produce globally competitive and ethically steeped workforce?

One of the key solutions to this issue is to uplift the morals and nationalism of the students by offering enough subjects in the higher education curricula that could instill nationalism and patriotism among students. One of the reasons our society now is deteriorating is that of the so-called 'brain drain' wherein the cream of the crop among our graduates migrate to other countries, thus having no contributions in solving our own society's problems.

CHED should also strictly screen the educators hired by the educational institutions, whether it be public or private, to ensure their competency to teach the Filipino youth and to also ensure that these students become competitive like their mentors.

Useful government-sponsored (i.e. well-funded) seminars and symposiums may also be compulsory given to all graduating students to direct them on where they could sensibly use the competencies they gained from schools and on how they could sharpen their skills more even after graduation.

Finally, CHED may also endeavor, through specific programs and strategies, to produce well-rounded graduates, that is, people who are molded to be value-oriented, self-disciplined, and responsible, aside from being well-informed and knowledgeable.

Education in the largest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another. So, we need to be educated for us to grow our knowledge. But,if the government doesn't want to help those less fortunate than we, and doesn't give extra work effort, how can those people or youth reached their dreams.

The article is about producing competitive workforce through the Philippine education. Question: Do you think it is better if all teachers/professors will be evaluated every semester in their performance?

Yes, Because when I was in college, some of my professors are really late when they enter our class room. Some of them were not prepared in their lesson plan. Instead of teaching their students in a better way, some of them would criticize them if they can't answer their question correctly.

Yes, because a lot of teachers/professors now are not doing their job that well. This problem should be brought to the Department of Education because this problem will affect a lot of students too. How could a student learn properly if their professors/teachers are much stupid than them.

It says in this article that they are planning to improve the quality of education they offer to produce a competitive work force and to prevent the migration of Filipino workers to other countries. Do you think it is better that Filipinos would choose to work here than abroad? Why?

This is a reaction to the comment of Nerielyn De Asis. We cannot deny the fact that Filipinos prefer to work abroad because they get greater salary there compared here in our country. But we should not forget that they also help our economic status by sending remittances to their families left here in the Philippines. So I think it’s better.

This is a reaction to the comment of Nerielyn De Asis: For me as a Filipino citizen, it is better that Filipinos choose to work here than abroad since we were trained and equipped with knowledge and skills that were needed to help improved our country and its economic status. Also,Filipinos are hardworking people and we're born to be part of our country, to make it be the best among other countries. This is our home, our land and we should be proud to it and one way to prove that is by working and serving our own home, our place, our country.

This is a reaction to the comment of Nerielyn De Asis yes , its better to work here than to abroad. because we want to improve our country here and to develop.... our economy ....
